Machu pichu is quite spectacular and set in an equally spectacular natural setting.
However the queues for the train, the bus going up, the entry, the toilets, the cafe, and the 800 metre queue for the bus back, together with the precipitous stairs and the congested trails through the site, greatly diminished the enjoyment of the experience . Waiting times amounted to several hours, often in the sun. And this was with pre-purchased tickets.
Weigh up a visit carefully. We enjoyed our stay at Ollantaytambo much more - a nice little rural town with fabulous archeology and Peruvian culture

It was a childhood dream for me. I had a foggy day when was my ticket. It was a mystery. Maybe it'll be better if it was sunny. The prise was very high, but when you have a dream, you should do it.

Machu Picchu was completely abandoned for nearly 400 years.
Machu Picchu was completely abandoned for nearly 400 years. There are no know written records of who built it, what it was used for or the part it played in Inca history. The guides are totally speculative. They have good stories..... but completely from their imagination. Do your homework and prepare for the visit.
-staff was very friendly and helpful, 10/10 on that part.
-breakfast was above average from what i experienced in peru from hotels on that price range. Very nice.
-well located, it's a small uphill walk from the near train station, the bus stop that goes to machu pichu, restaurants and stores (I don't recommend them though, because it's much more expensive than in cusco)
-beds were comfortable
-room was spacious
The property is beautifully located up on the hills. The rooms have a great view and the staff was very accommodating. They met us at the train station and walked us up the steep but beautiful stairway to the hotel. They packed us breakfast for our early trek to Match Pitchu and even let us change after we came back as we had already checked out. Overall fantastic experience. Recommend 10/10
Good option to stay in Águas Calientes. It is located a little bit far from the main center, but in a very short walk (about 5 minutes) you reach the artisan market, train station and restaurants.
The hotel itself is nice. The staff is friendly. The room is big, clean and confortable. The breakfast is ok, but could be improved.
I had a pleasant stay at this hotel thanks to its fantastic location and wonderful staff. It's conveniently located near the bus station, and the service extended to picking me up from the train station, which was a lovely touch. The room boasted a great king bed and was meticulously clean, making for a very comfortable stay.
It looks clean at the first sight, but it’s not. I can feel that they didn’t change the bedding. The bathroom is small, you can’t turn around in the shower room and the water splashes out of the basin. This is the worst hotel I’ve stay in Peru among all six, I count the hours before leaving here.
Everything was perfect ! Someone took us to the hotel from the train station. The room was clean and has a wonderful view on Aguas Calientes.
The breakfast was really tasty, they accommodate it so we can have it at 5am.
The staff is really nice and helpful. I really recommend this place !!
the staff was amazing and helped with arranging a doctor the the hotel within 30 min when my boyfriend was feeling bad. the breakfast was really good and the location was excellent. If coming back to Machupicchu, we would chose this hotel again. I highly recommend staying there!
Clean, great location, views, and solid breakfast with lots of options. They offer great service. I forgot some medicine they placed in a fridge for me and was already heading back to Cusco. A staff member, Rocio, was able to get it to my hotel in Cusco the very next day!
Super available Staff. He logistically helped via whatsapp and picked me up at the station (4 min walking from the structure). The hotel is at 1 min walking from the bus stop for machu picchu!
He also allowed me to keep my stuff the hotel during my trip to machu picchu.
The room was very nice and clean. The bed was king sized and very comfortable. The hotel was easy to find, just off the main square. Guido was very friendly and helpful. We had numerous issues with our stay and Guido tried to make it right.
Beds were very comfortable and the room was spacious! Staff are very helpful and friendly and will pick you up from the train station to guide you to the hotel. Breakfast was delicious and filling before your visit to Machu Picchu!
The most incredible property in Machu Picchu. We couldn't have loved it more. The way the hotel celebrates nature and builds around it is inspirational. We loved it!!! My wife did a spa session that was out of this world!
This hotel is super awesome for its beautiful view of mountains from window and its friendly service here. I really enjoy the breakfast here, it is delicious. Next time I come to Machu Picchu I will book this hotel again.
Amazing little centrally located hotel with private rooms. Has everything you need for a comfortable one night stay before or after seeing Machu Picchu. Extremely good price and perfect for an unfussy, solo traveler.
Excellent location near station, bus stop, shops, restaurants etc. great breakfast on 7th floor with Mountain Views. Reece went above and beyond to help and serve and he came to the station to walk us to the hotel.
The kind reception lady managed to check us in early as we were quite sick and tired from Inca Trail. Hotel is easy to spot. Nice balcony view. Was the only breakfast hotel buffet in my Peru trip that had BACON!
Huge room with huge bed located right next to the river. The water pressure and temperature were good. The hotel offers free shower room after Machu Picchu hike.
Everything is adapted to the traveler’s needs to finish Machu Picchu hiking trip. I really appreciate the flexibility and convenience this hotel provided.
