Machu pichu is quite spectacular and set in an equally spectacular natural setting.
However the queues for the train, the bus going up, the entry, the toilets, the cafe, and the 800 metre queue for the bus back, together with the precipitous stairs and the congested trails through the site, greatly diminished the enjoyment of the experience . Waiting times amounted to several hours, often in the sun. And this was with pre-purchased tickets.
Weigh up a visit carefully. We enjoyed our stay at Ollantaytambo much more - a nice little rural town with fabulous archeology and Peruvian culture

It was a childhood dream for me. I had a foggy day when was my ticket. It was a mystery. Maybe it'll be better if it was sunny. The prise was very high, but when you have a dream, you should do it.

Machu Picchu was completely abandoned for nearly 400 years.
Machu Picchu was completely abandoned for nearly 400 years. There are no know written records of who built it, what it was used for or the part it played in Inca history. The guides are totally speculative. They have good stories..... but completely from their imagination. Do your homework and prepare for the visit.
- Bigest room we had in all Peru, with an amazing view on the mountains
- 3 minutes away from the bus stop to Machu Picchu, 1 from the train station, 1 from the market et 3 from all the restaurants
- Very clean with comfortable beds
- People were amazing to help us. They keep our backpack while we were at the Machu Picchu and they prepared us a breakfast to go before the opening hour.
- A special thanks to John and Alberto, the managers of the hotel who were very kind to guide us.
The hotel is very basic, but good value for money, considering you can get a double room for quite a good price for Aguas Calientes. Centrally located, about 6-8min walk to the bus stop for Machu Pichu. They have lockers to keep your luggage after you check out. Breakfast was decent, eggs, fresh eggs, coffee etc. They serve it already very early for those leaving early for Machu Pichu. Room was clean, and we had a view of the mountains over the town’s rooftops.
The Susanna Inn is located next to an active train track for the Inca Rail and Peru Rail trains. Despite this, the rooms were very quiet. The front desk staff, particularly Willy, were exceptionally helpful. They allowed us to check in early, answered multiple questions, recommended restaurants, and helped me when I got sick. The beds at this hotel were comfortable. For the price, this was an outstanding bargain.
Good location near bus station for Machu Picchu bus & near train. BEST complimentary breakfast on our trip! Buffet with eggs, potatoes, breads, cheese, avocado, yogurts, fresh juices, and all sorts of fresh fruit. Plus of course coffee & tea. Breakfast starts at 5 am for early trips to Machu Picchu. Very helpful staff. Special shout out to Wilson. Hotel stored our luggage while we were in MP
- Great location in the heart of Aguas Calientes, very close to the bus to Machu Picchu
- A nice room for one night as a stopover on your way to Machu Picchu
- WiFi provided but pretty weak
- Helpful and nice staff - we couldn't have our breakfast at the hotel, so we got breakfast boxes to go
- Possibility to store your luggage during your stay at Machu Picchu
The location was excellent. Aguas Calientes is a pretty compact town and I could reach everywhere easily on foot from the hotel. Staff was friendly. The hot breakfast consisted of two eggs cooked your way l along with bread, juice and tea/coffee. We had plenty of time to eat breakfast before boarding our 7am bus to Machu Picchu. Overall a great stay.
view of the river from the balcony and shower.
staff were very helpful. They met us at the train station and walked us to the hotel. They made us a packed lunch as we were up before breakfast. They also looked after our bags whilst we visited Machu Picchu.
great location right next to the entrance to the hot springs
The hotel manager met us at the train station to guide us to the hotel which was a very kind gesture! He also called a tour guide for us for Machu Picchu. The breakfast was lovely and the room was very big. The beds were comfortable and the room clean! I felt safe in this location for the most part.
Great location. Close to the train station and the Machu Picchu bus stop … and restaurants. Modern style room, with king size bed. Buffet breakfast great way to start the day. Hotel will hold your luggage during your visits to Machu Picchu
Very central. 2 minutes away from the Machu Picchu bus and 4 minutes away from the train. all restaurants are nearby. One of the hotel staff prepared a lovely lunch box that really saved us after a long morning spent in Machu Picchu.
A nice hotel room, in the best location in Aguas Calientes, only 5 mins from the bus stop to Machu Picchu. The staff in Both the restaurant and hotel is absolutely great! also, a note for the restaurant that prepares excellent food!
This hotel is super awesome for its beautiful view of mountains from window and its friendly service here. I really enjoy the breakfast here, it is delicious. Next time I come to Machu Picchu I will book this hotel again.
The kind reception lady managed to check us in early as we were quite sick and tired from Inca Trail. Hotel is easy to spot. Nice balcony view. Was the only breakfast hotel buffet in my Peru trip that had BACON!
Proximity to the town. We liked the bedding and the showers. The hotel staff was the best part. They helped us so quickly with anything we needed. Breakfast with a chef making the omelets was amazing!
The room is very spacious and the beds comfortable. The staff were nice and helpful.
The bath in the room was great.
There is an option to leave the bags in the hotel when going to the Machupicchu.
Unfortunately because of the protests we could not make it to the hotel but they were super nice handling the situation. Easy communication and prompt service! Would stay next time if I need to!
It was close to the city and in a good place to start Machu Picchu Hike.
We got little lunch paket instead early breakfast, but you get these in other hotels as well
