Capital City With Small Town Charm
The charming Slovenian capital of Ljubljana is the only large city in the country. Dominated by Castle Hill with the medieval Ljubljana Castle on top, the city is a picturesque mix of Balkan architectural styles, romantic bridges and scenic views.
Due to two major earthquakes in 1511 and 1895 that destroyed many buildings, the Old Town features a range of styles: from Roman to Medieval Baroque and Viennese Secession. Lubljana is an amazing city. the locals are friendly, the nature and architects are so beautiful that all what you want is to walk in the streets and see all these bridges, buildings etc. I would recommend to take some guide tours to know the history and local stories, they are very interesting. Beautiful diverse city. Lots to do with a great bus and train service to other places such as Lake Bled and the Caves. I would recommend doing one of the many tours available from the tourist office on the first day of your stay to get a real feeling for the city and its history. Local trasport is easy and person can reach every corner of the town with local buses. The centre of the town is really lovely. Ljubljana is one of the smallest capital cities in Europe – and that’s a good thing. Everything is very green and compact. There are both green parks and a charming historic old town with riverside restaurants. Cycling around Ljubljana is also very convenient.
