I had a great stay at this centrally located hotel, right at the beginning of High Street—perfect for exploring the town. The room was clean and comfortable. Parking was easy too: the hotel offers two car parks, and there’s plenty of additional parking nearby if needed. The hotel blends historic charm with modern touches, and the atmosphere feels both elegant and relaxed. Staff were friendly and professional throughout. I didn’t try the food, but the on-site bar and brasserie seemed popular and well-reviewed. Overall, a solid and convenient choice for staying in Barnstaple.

Clean, fresh up to date rooms, pity about all the scaffolding around the building and the fish factory outlook. Breakfast was very good, perfect scrambled eggs, poached and fries eggs cooked on the pass, everything cooked in small batches so all very fresh but sometimes had to wait a minute or two.

Amazing rural location, beautiful farmhouse, everything set up perfectly for a quiet, relaxed break. Sam is a fantastic host. Everything super clean, the room was very comfortable. I wish I could have stayed longer than my three full days but it was still enough to feel recharged. There are some stunning places to visit nearby, Croyde Beach for example and half a dozen lovely coastal towns/villages. Definitely looking forward to my next stay.

Has a good range of shops and some reasonably priced long-stay parking. Interesting local museum by the river is well worth a visit. Many other seaside villages and other local towns easily reached from this area, including RHS Rosehall Gardens and a couple of NT properties worth a visit. We had a full week at The Spinney, Barnstable and did a different thing each day. Some very good local places to have dinner eg the Williams Arms and Squires Fish Restaurant in Braunton. Be careful to keep to A and B roads where possible as some narrow country lanes are challenging and can be time-consuming to drive.

As with many seaside towns in the UK, Barnstaple has seen better days. The high street is in decline, though there are some nice restaurants, Lush been one we visited twice with great sea food dishes. We used Barnstaple as a base to explore North Devon during the day and enjoyed our evening meals in the town.

Barnstaple is a lovely town with plenty of places of interest, shops, bars, and restaurants. We had an evening meal at Clinton & Glass house would highly recommend. The food was excellent. Rock park was a fabulous place for walking our beloved dog Toby. Barnstaple is a good base to stay to explore North Devon. Which we took full advantage of visiting Ilfracombe, Bude, Appledore, and Bideford all just a short drive away. All well worth a visit.

There is not a lot of things to see in Barnstaple but it is a good launch pad for other areas or a good stopover. We had a great meal at a local restaurant (Lush) that did tapas and our bed and breakfast accommodation was great and exceeded our expectations.

Town felt unloved and centre looked unattractive to me. Area round hotel and park was nicely kept and attractive. Countryside around Barnstaple is stunning so hotel is a good base for exploring but do some research to find somewhere outside hotel to dine in evening.

Barnstaple has many great features and I will return to explore further. Wonderful market building and many pubs and restaurants at all price points. Lots of historical buildings and a delightful park area at the side of the river. Many points of interest fairly close by and good public transport routes feed the town. With some imaginative council effort there is room for improvement cosmetically to make the town a bit more appealing. I would start by reviewing parking charges. There is nothing more off putting than being ripped off £14 for 10 hours parking and all it does is perhaps ensure people drive away from the town for the day rather than spend their hard earned in and around the shops. These anti car tactics are one of the principle reasons the high street is in decline.

The hosts were so lovely and welcoming. They let us in the room way before 3pm and we just chilled and had a pint whilst they cleaned it. Great value for money. We ordered the breakfast and they also let my father in law come for the very cheap breakfast (cooked beautifully and again, great value for money) so that saved him a fortune as his hotel breakfast was very pricey. Wonderful fun pub to enjoy and felt well at home. Thanks for a fantastic trip to Barnstaple! Photo of the nearby Valley of the Rocks - well worth a walk there.

We had a lovely pre-Christmas stay at this elegant hotel overlooking the river in Barnstaple. Close to the shops, bars and restaurants of Barnstaple, the hotel's location is perfect. Beautifully decorated for Christmas, the hotel was warm and welcoming and spotlessly clean throughout. The staff were all cheerful, friendly and keen to help. The room was lovely (thanks for the upgrade!), and the dinner and breakfast were excellent with plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. We can't wait to come back next year.
