The location was ideal as it was in the centre of the town, with all of the facilities nearby, including the castle, which was our reason for visiting Barnard Castle. The restaurant/breakfast room was very clean and the staff were friendly and efficient. We enjoyed the breakfast but the black pudding was rather dry and the poached eggs whites were not fully cooked. The cleanliness of the hotel, overall was excellent.

The Old Well Inn is very quaint and quirky and in a great location. Most of the staff were very friendly and welcoming. There is a cute little front bar with fireplace (although the fire was not lit on our visit). We ate dinner and breakfast at the Inn and both were delicious. The room we stayed in was on the top floor and was very comfortable and decorated to suit the age of the property.

3 village greens, two pubs, Rose and Crown excellent. Church old and some interesting features. Near High and Low force waterfalls.
Barnard Castle and Middleton on Tees both interesting and nearby.
Middleton has the most bizzare statue I have ever seen. Looks like Cupid being attacked by 4 crocodiles!
