Morpeth
Built in 1860, the historic Bronte Boutique Hotel is located just 164 feet from the Hunter River. Excellent location, everything in walking distance. Friendly welcome by Kerrie, who rang us that our room was ready earlier than first advised and then showed us around and explained the facilities. Good size beautiful room, nice and cool when we arrived as the "heath was on" on that day, comfortable bed, excellent shared area, coffee machine/tea making facilities with plenty of choice. Port and chocolates available in the sitting room, which is beautiful and comfortable. Water and nibbles in the room. Cooked breakfast on the terrace, served by two lovely young ladies. Everything was perfect.

Some interesting dress shops and jewellery shops for the ladies. A number of good places to eat or just get a nice coffee. The crepe shop and the pizza / Indian restaurant I would recommend for a meal. Interesting old architecture and the Christmas shop is fabulous if you visit in Nov -December.
Maybe let the locals enjoy their January holidays and holiday elsewhere, not much was open and we had to travel out of Morpeth for eating out options. But the locals we did encounter were friendly & welcoming.
Gorgeous little town packed with character and charm! Quaint shops filled with everything from beautifully handmade items to intriguing antiques and collectables. Tons of history made accessible with amazing museums and beautifully maintained historic buildings. Plenty of cafe's and places to eat and there's plenty of things for the whole family to enjoy.
Lovely town on the river near Maitland. Historic buildings and history. Nice spot for overnight stay. Recommend booking accommodation and restaurants in advance if travelling on the weekend. We had a lovely dinner at Commercial Hotel.
A nice place for a weekend. Lots of cafes and craft and antique shops at inflated prices, but that's OK because it's that sort of town. Very historic but check the hours of the museum because it's not often open. Would have loved to see inside the Anglican church, but it's not often open either. Boydells is the highlight.
Beautiful little town on the river, historic walk & bridge. Plenty of cafes and eateries, the Commercial Hotel served good quality food, and plenty to choose from. The craft beer from the Microbrewery (in the hotel) was very good.
