Look very closely the hotel and room you rent to include the amenities.. I have stayed in over 6 different hotels in the range of $60-$87. It was very difficult to find a good hotel that met my basic needs
1- Ac that works, not fans
2- A good breakfast or at least a place to eat close by
3- Security or lighting when returning at night
4- Clean working bathrooms with hot water and knobs that don't fall off
5- No surprises when checking in or out with surprise fees
When you find one like I have stick to that hotel the next visit or go up in price range

Comfortable weather. Awesome food, beer and coffee.
Comfortable weather. Awesome food, beer and coffee. You can plan your whole trip around the city with Uber, super safe and cheap. Hear the advise of the locals, they know better. Plan for a whole afternoon on "Comuna 13", immerse yourself in the culture, have dinner and do your shopping. Withdraw money on the "BanColombia" ATM's, they have the better rate. Book the Guatapé trip, but make sure that they stop at "Altos del Chocho". Tip your tour guides and waiters, they work for it.

The food and the culture were great. The views were amazing.
The food and the culture were great. The views were amazing. And although the tap water is safe to drink in this city, I would stick to bottled water unless you won't mind the rather poor (and metallic) taste of tap.
One thing to note if you are an obvious foreigner, there are people constantly hounding you and bombarding you while you are walking in the street just to sell you things, get you to dine with them, or simply give you money. This was my least favorite part of the trip. I am a tall white American woman. At certain times of the day/night, I could not walk 10 steps without being approached by street vendors or begging children.

The city if Medellin is a city like no other.
The city if Medellin is a city like no other. You have a mixture of city-like with the immersive of nature. It looks like a city with beauty and nature combined. I suggest taking the metro or cable car. Medellin is similar to NYC but way more eco-friendly!

be careful with taxi's they may run the bill up taking longer routes, UBER works better, but even they try to modify a trip for a greater fare .. You can walk el Pobaldo without any problem .

Pablano neighborhood is kind of revolting.
Pablano neighborhood is kind of revolting.
At the same time, if you are a tourist, how can you resist going there? It has all the high end restaurants, photo ops, boutiques, discos, and it is on fire with energy. Pergamino Coffee shop is fantastic.
The vibe of Lleras might be insulting to your soul though. Its full of scammers, prostitution, drugs, and beggars. Its dehumanizing and it will be hard not to burn through money when you are there.
In contrast Laurelas is more local and friendly. You will get some of the warm Columbian character from waitstaff and local coffee shops. There's a ton of partying in that neighborhood too, but not nearly as sleezy as Lleras Park.
Pablano in general is a tourist trap with high prices and a mediocre return on investment. It does not feel good to be there. Perhaps if I was local in Pablano I would know of all the cool little hang-outs, gyms, and dance classes. Which I am sure are abundant.
If I were to stay in Medellin for a while I would get a hotel in Laurelis and then look for a month-to-month rental in a neighborhood like Candelabra.
Its a relatively safe city for expats and has a great train system. The mountains are unique. If you were a local you could probably live there cheap.
Just stay away from Lleras is my advice.
Rango Hostel is a very clean and welcoming hostel. They have recommendations for what tourists should visit while in Medellin. The beds and bathrooms are very clean. The cleanest i have been to for a hostel in colombia. They have delicious and tasty breakfast too which is worth paying for. Furthermore, they have many social areas and therefore easy to meet other travellers and make friends. Lastly, there is no better location than Rango Hostel. Right next to Poblado park which comes in handy because all activities commence from there.
This is the BEST boutique hotel i have stayed in in the whole of Colombia, the location is amazing the staff are amazing and very helpful and friendly , the rooms are done to a high standard and decorated lovely. Everything is perfect and I have stayed twice and will definitely be returning. Walking distance to the main area, very safe and secure. And the breakfast is delicious also. Air con in rooms is brilliant and huge tv with apps and Chanel’s great Wi-Fi also. 10/10! Brilliant
I had originally been given a loud room because of the bar downstairs. I asked for a different room and the staff immediately provided me a different room. The staff were amazing, all of them. They assisted me with everything with smiles on their faces. Everything worked out great. I found that many service providers in Colombia do not offer the greatest service but there are exceptions and this is one of them. Also best eggs I've ever had for breakfast. Great hotel!!!
This is a fairly new hotel just a block off 70 in Laureles. I have stayed here several times with mixed results. The hotel is very well located, and it is clean and the beds are comfortable. There is no control of the volume of conversations in the common areas which transfers sound into the bedrooms. This is a common problem in Colombia I can say after 5 years living there. There is a new seafood restaurant next door that is really good, would recommend trying it!
The breakfast was excellent. The breakfast food choices were great. The staff was fantastic. Everyone was professional and courteous. The entire staff, the front desk, the restaurant staff, the cleaning staff and the concierge were the the best!!! The location of the hotel was also great. This was my first trip to Colombia and Hotel Du Parc made it so very much enjoyable. I would definitely recommend it to any travelling to Medellin, Colombia!
Serrania hostel is the best hostel where you could stay to discover Medellín. You will feel home from moment 0. Diana and Erwin are two amazing people that can teach a lot about the city and Colombia to travelers. The food they serve is also delicious. Plus, the location is perfect if you want to discover the city.
Very modern and clean.
AC unit in rooms.
Beautiful rooftop with pool and hot tub.
Free washer and dryer, but they also washed and dried our clothes for free (+tip).
Capture Colombia Tours agency in the lobby to help with booking activities- like paragliding, comuna 13, guatape, coffee, etc.
The best surprise of my trip was meeting the hotels cat Richard Parker ❤️ The sweetest ever! Also the staff were attentive and so sweet all the time, my waiter Sami and Mater were excellent! I will definitely be planning another trip soon! Thank you for your kindness Colombia 🇨🇴
One of our favourite hotels we stayed in during our trip around Colombia. Very cool, modern. Our room was fab. The decor was cool and the bed was super comfy. The view from the elevator to the room was also very cool. The rooftop was lovely and so was the downstairs bar area.
The hotel is located in between Parque el Poblado and Parque Lleras in a quiet street and right in the center of El Poblado. The room was well equiped with a fridge which was convenient. It is a great deal for the price. We enjoyed staying there and can recommend it.
The rooms were very pretty. El poblado is a party district and we did research this before booking. However most reviews for this hotel did not mention the noise. If you are staying in Medellin to party and want to sleep from 5am-11am this hotel is perfect.
Centrally located near the busy streets of Laureles, Hotel Aura provides easy acsess to restaurants, clubs, bars and supermarkets without the hustle of the bar streets. The room was spacious enough and the matress one the best I had in Colombia.
I loved staying here and will stay again on my return trip to Medellín! The hotel is in a very great location in el poblado. There is a pharmacy, delicious restaurant and shopping centers at walking distance. Also they give great breakfast!!
I loved the energy in the hotel . The hotel staff was amazing. Everyone greeted you at all times . The food was basic but to made with love . When I return to Colombia I will frequent this hotel. I will also recommend family members here .
The location is great - easy walk to other Poblado destinations. Like most places we experienced in Colombia, the staff were amazing and worked very hard to please their guests. The rooftop bar had awesome views. Breakfast was great.
absolutely beautiful brand new accommodations.
I’ve been traveling through Colombia for 3 months
and this was the nicest cleanest hotel I’ve seen.
Everything is super clean, modern, the shower,
bed and pillows are top of the line.
Location and the staff. Everything you could need or want is within a block or two of the hotel. The staff is very friendly and goes out of their way to help. Good in room air conditioning, which isn’t common in Colombia.
We stayed the second time there. The location in the El Poblado zone is perfect, a hotel with clean, functional suites and great staff. We highly recommend to stay there if you visit Medellin.
A really cosy, personal hostel! A own room for that price is a luxury. A lot of people that stay for a long time, Colombians and Venezolanas, what gives it a really *home-like* feeling!
Hotel ok during colombian estadio festival / loud, noisy and typiclal colombia out partying and bullshit until 4 am and more / bogota boys / no respect or,dignity to fellow guests
