This is a gem of a place which we highly recommend! El Sol enjoys magnificent views of the hills down to the plain being situated a couple of miles out of town where it is definitely warmer, sunnier and less wet. There are interesting gardens (plenty of birds) and a super pool area where you can swim, relax and watch the sunset in the evening. There are six different cabins, we stayed in three, all laid out with anything you might need with sunny views, one with a jacuzzi perched over the valley. The breakfast is superb and supper is available being tasty and convenient after a long day of sightseeing, alternatively there are plenty of suggestions to eat out. . Nothing is too much for Javier and Sian and their happy team. We liked El Sol so much that on our last night in Costa Rica we checked out of another hotel and came back to El Sol instead!

While a bit difficult to get to, it was well worth the drive to get to see a family run farm with lush fruit and coffee trees which were used to make the provided breakfast. I wish we would have stayed longer.

My family and I had a wonderful experience at this house. It’s just 10 minutes from town and all the main activities, making it super convenient while still feeling peaceful and private. The views were absolutely stunning and the jacuzzi was a total game-changer! We ended each day soaking and relaxing while taking in the views. The house was super comfortable, well-equipped, and perfect for a family getaway. We would definitely love to come back!

This is a beautiful gem of a hotel. With beautiful views out over the valley, a fabulous and spacious room and unparalleled staff in terms of their willingness to make our stay as comfortable as possible. They really went out of their way to greet us with smiles and a concern for how our birding was going. The owner was on hand to personally greet each guest and seemed genuinely to care about his property and his guests. The on site restaurant was so good, we chose to eat no where else for our 5 day stay. We were there for birding, and the owner arranged a marvellous guide for the 2 days we required. It is a beautiful birding location, and we will be staying there again upon our return to Monteverde.
