This is a very small, quiet and simple town. If you are looking for a lot of nightlife, it might not be for you. But there are several really good restaurants and bars within walking distance, and it felt very safe to us. Definite small town vibes where you will get to interact with local residents if you want. This is not a tourist town.
This is not a tourist town. The local restaurants are authentic and delicious. It has a beautiful wide beach and gentle surf. Perfect climate. The beachfront properties are well maintained. I've stayed in both the "bad" and the "good" parts of Juan Dolio and cannot recommend either. The beaches in this area are far too dirty, for one, and the local grocery shops (colmado) have a very poor, limited selection of vegetables and meat. I have been coming to Juan Dolio for over 10 years and I am afraid it is time to move on. I believe the pandemic has hit this area pretty hard and many local places have closed. I was here a year ago and I believe that things are worse now. Fewer tourists now, buildings less well maintained.
