Grangemouth is an industrial town but has a beautiful park and excellent amenities. It is also an excellent base for exploring central Scotland. Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling, Falkirk, the Ochills and Trosachs are all in easy reach.
It was blowing a houlie....it was a yellow storm warning..rain hail and snow....it's got some nice restaurants ...and the biggest oil refinery going!!very picturesque when the sun is out...lots of touristy stuff to do if you are into history...lovely area to explore...
The town centre has changed dramatically. Many shops closed down. There is a shop called stitches which does wool etc. It has lots of things and the lady is very helpful. I used to be out there quite a lot. I now only go for shops Stitches and the fruit and vegetable shop every thing nice and fresh.
Just like many towns in the uk it’s dying on its feet. The main town centre had many closed shops and an abundance of junkies and foul mouthed lowlife. But unfortunately everywhere is the same. Would not by choice go back to Grangemouth, we had to go, this was not a holiday break. A very industrialised area with the refinery etc, obviously employs a lot of people in the area with a large mix of businesses, so that is good.
It is so convenient for train journeys from 3 stations making travel to Edinburgh Glasgow and Stirling quick and easy. The town was used ask so based only but there is a very good restaurant yards away from the Hotel. You won't get service in Edinburgh of a similar level.
From the brief time we spent there, overnight stay only, we were impressed with the cleanliness of the city and the ease of access from the Motorway system. However the residential areas could do with, what is now becoming the norm in England, a speed limit of 20mph as some drivers did appear to be driving too fast. It also benefits from being only a 20 minute drive from the Royal Highland Showground (where we were actually going) and Edinburgh Airport and would be an ideal stopping off point for either if having to be there early in the morning. The hotel we stayed in had its own restaurant attached which provided excellent choice of meals at very reasonable prices.
The breakfast was very good and the location was fine. We had come up for a funeral which was at the hotel. and the funeral tea was excellent. So it made it quite compact.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our evening in the on site drinks area. The breakfast was excellent. This hotel is a diamond in the ruff.
Excellent informative greeting, and help when needed…thank you Susan! Hotel and room very clean, great location, and thoroughly enjoyable stay.
