The Bull has been a coaching inn in the Essex village of Halstead for 500 years. This traditional pub offers rooms with free Wi-Fi, a lively bar and home-cooked food. Beautiful old pub with lovely wooden beams. Rooms were a great size and very comfortable. The breakfast was exceptional and staff very friendly and helpful. A very pleasant stay overall.

Rooms have limited space and toilet ceiling is low but it’s a great building and really nice pub and the drinks and food but rooms upstairs need some maintenance and repairs. Provide fans in the bedrooms in hot weather and summer duvets not winter ones.

Rooms great except for room number 1... shabby smelled of dogs, other rooms, we had 4 in total were great... bar staff friendly, not so much breakfast waitress , breakfast poor and barely warm... all went uneaten

The Riverside chip shop was great value.
The Riverside chip shop was great value. The Shiish restaurant is a must visit lovely food. Small town shops mostly specialised or limited stock range. Very pretty area Sudbury not far away Gainsborough's birthplace. Friday market there. To get the best from a quiet town is to time your visit when an event is being held if you prefer lively.

We went on a Sunday, so many shops were closed. Not a problem for me but my wife is a champion shopper in training. If you are looking for food try the Bull Hotel, their food is excellent and the prices can't be beaten (for two people, starter, main and two ales was less than £20). The Town centre is on quite a steep hill, so anyone with mobility issues may need to consider this.

Halstead itself has seen better times but local volunteers are making a concerted effort with clean up programmes and Halstead in bloom. The council and the environment agency need to attend to the river. The lack of facilities for eating at the mill is a great shame.

Town of Halstead is historic, plenty of interesting paces to visit there and in surrounding areas, but all modern conveniences on the doorstep. Great antique centre and Bull Inn is great for food and stay over.

From $55 per nightI have stayed at this hotel before and thought that it would be an ideal base for a family wedding. We felt that this hotel would be more intimate for our party of 14. The hotel is right in the middle of the town in Halstead. It is within walking distance to cafes restaurants and all other amenities.

From $73 per nightInn is situated close to the centre of Halstead. It is a traditional pub/Inn with a good range of beers in the bar. Staff are friendly, the room was comfortable, it has a car park at the rear. Our breakfast was excellent. It consisted of a cooked breakfast with cereals and toast provided.

It was a good location and within walking distance of the town (Halstead) however we did initially have some difficulties getting to the property due to the one-way system. It was clean and nicely furnished and had a small balcony. The neighbourhood was nice and quiet at night.
