Muir of Ord is situated well to be used as a base to visit The Highlands. It has access to Main roads north and south with the Black Isle on doorstep. A few eateries and carry out places will keep the hunger at bay. Nice friendly folk always keen to speak to you.
Cannot fault this lovely property. Every room is beautiful and very carefully planned. Loved the kitchen/ diner and loved using the AGA. The bedrooms are all spacious and very comfortable, the bathrooms all have great showers and lovely views . The outside space is great, we didn’t use the bbq and pizza oven but would imagine it’s great to use in the warmer weather. The hot tub was great too. The house is located near the distillery with lovely views front and back.
Lovely village, with good facilities, shops, and bar etc - such as a late opening Co-op with ATM inside, various bakeries, cafes, and food takeaways etc, as well as a train station only two minutes walk away, that we used to get into Inverness the first night, and a bus stop only a minute way for our return back. Very handy location to use as a base for exploring numerous places nearby. We headed south to Urquhart Castle and Loch Ness, then east to Chanonry Point near Fortrose, to go dolphin spotting, but there is just so much to do from here outwards. On the second evening we ventured over to the bar across the road - and whilst looking a bid forlorn from the outside, inside was clean and warm, and the locals were amazingly welcoming to us, and we made new friends as a result! We will be back. Thank you Muir of Ord for welcoming us, and being such a nice place!
This is a beautiful area of Scotland. We spent a day on the Black Isle at Rosemarkie on the beach. We didn’t go to Chanonry Point this time, but you can look for dolphins there. Children love the beach and Crofters Bistro is a great place for lunch or dinner. Very busy on Sunday when we went. Best to book. Quick service on Monday. My daughter and granddaughter walked the Fairy Glen and loved it. There is a farm shop and petting farm on the way to Beauly. Worth a visit. Great for kids. Beauly is a beautiful, place! Good eateries and lots of small shops.
Once you get to the Muir of Ord you find it's quite cenrtral but out of the way enough to get to alot of places. We loved Rogie Falls,Ullapool,Loch Ness and Dunrobin Castle but not so much with going to try and see the dolphins at Chanory point as the parking is a nightmare and there were no dolphins.
The Glen Ord distillery is worth a visit. You can book a tour, or just turn up and visit the exhibition. Don't miss the informative tasting session at the end, and ask lots of questions if you are interested in the subtleties of Scotch. For coffee and a cake, try the excellent Bad Girl bakery in the village centre.
We chose this hotel for its location and value. Because we would spend several days in the Lake District park, the hotel seemed to us the most optimal choice. The room is spacious enough, well furnished, and equipped with everything you need. Breakfast was not included, but a large pub on the hotel's ground floor serves good and inexpensive food. The hotel does not have private parking, but there is a public parking behind it, paid only from 8 am to 3 pm and is free on Sundays.
Muir of Ord
Gorgeous location. Easy parking. Delicious breakfast and great local dining at the Priory Hotel. Dougie and his son Cameron were great hosts whilst Linda cooked an amazing breakfast that included warm scones which we took away for the journey (couldn't wait for tea break!). A bit of info in the room would have been good such as how to log on to wifi and places to eat out. A 10 rated establishment none the less.

It is a basic highland hotel, but reasonably priced. Staff were very helpful. Good shower. Rooms very clean. Breakfast was excellent. Not much choice in this area. Overall good value and no issue.
