Ideally located for exploring Ryedale and the North Yorkshire Moors, the hotel is located in an area of natural beauty, between the traditional market towns of Pickering and Malton. Very friendly and warm welcome. Had dinner in the hotel which was served piping hot, my gammon being exactly how I had requested it cooked. Exceptionally clean room and throughout. Excellent little market town Plenty of lovely bars and places to eat Great walking area Near to train station for a ride on NYMR Close to the seaside towns of Whitby, Scarborough and Robin Hoods Bay. Many activity/theme parks to explore for adults and children.
We stayed to travel on the steam train (evening 'light' run) and found Pickering to be clean, interesting and quiet at night. The steam train was wonderful, as expected and we will certainly be coming back again to do more runs. There are plenty of places to eat and some lovely historic public houses.
Lovely little town. Centre within walking distance of the BandB. Lidls supermarket easily reachable. Yorkshire steam train within walking distance. Pickering castle a little further on foot but still walkable and good, easy walk around it plus public footpath to go further. Cute shops plus plenty of eating places. Library easily reached too. Easy in / out if travelling by car. Very 'central' to the rest of North Yorkshire.
The only visit to Pickering was to use the North York Moors Railway which was excellent. The town has plenty of car parks but the charges are quite high and the ticket machines are far from easy to use.
We came for the Steam Gala. We have been many times before and stayed in different bed and breakfasts. Some restaurants are quite expensive but the fish an d chip shop is what we most enjoy. We used the coastliner bus and had some fabulous scenery on the way to Whitby.
We weren't there for long as we had gone specifically to go on the NYMR which we did. This was a really good experience as we are steam train lovers and went to Whitby which we hadn't done before on the train. What little we saw of Pickering looked very good, parking was easy to find.
Pickering
Beautiful place to stay, central location for travelling around. We had a car, but there were bus stops outside the hotel and obviously fabulous country side for walking. Breakfast was freshly cooked and amazing. Dinner was exceptional and I would recommend booking in early as it gets busy! There is a lovely outside area with a stream which is so pretty. Overall this is a fabulous place to stay and I would definitely recommend.
Pickering
The service was fab, looked after in all aspects. Beer to die for, food also very, very good. Only down side is phone and internet connection non existent(only a problem if you don't know this before and people worry about you because you do not reply to there messages etc). Even paying bill took them 2 goes before they could get a link!Great place to get away from normal hubbub, but with Pickering only a few miles away.

the breakfast was ok although on one of them the sausage was on the turn, i was disappointed as i thought we were in walking distance to pickering, but it was 10 miles away and being that the kitchen was not open for evening meals, and the nearest restaurants were fully booked, it spoilt the break
