I lived in Tonbridge for 25 years so I am familiar with the town and somewhat biased! My trip was a long weekend to catch up with friends I have been unable to see for two years. The High Street has many pubs, restaurants and other places to eat. The castle ruin is an historic 11th century site beside the river. Tonbridge benefits from a huge green space (Tonbridge Sports ground) ideal for walks by the river and further. Out of town are more historic buildings and sattely homes than one can expect. The town's railway station is in the centre of town so it's easily accessible without a car.
tonbridge is a small town few decent shops and bars tonbridge wells it more busier only 4 miles away its definetly worth visiting the only problem is traffic never seen so much traffic and had to use arriva buses they must be the worst bus company ive used in 20 yerrs
We just wanted to have a change of scenery and Tonbridge has a few nice feature that can be explored in a short stay. The castle ruins are very picturesque and it hosts numerous events during the year. The shopping is okay, not great. But the river is nice to walk along and there are a few nice bars and restaurants.
Being somewhere i lived for many years, the history and surrounding areas are worth a visit. Tonbridge is a good place to base yourself, although the hotels are a little pricey compared to other towns.
The staff were so kind and friendly. Room excellet- very clean and tidy. Tonbridge is a very walkable town. The castle is lovely. Great walks around the sports ground. Ate across the road at the Turkish Havat - really good.
Tonbridge is a lovely town. A visit to the castle is a worth a visit. We ate at The Bakehouse at 124 where we received a lovely welcome. Our food was freshly prepared and very tasty. They also have a varied menu too. You can also visit a few other destinations with Tonbridge as your base.
The Carpenters Arms is a fabulous place to stay. Warm, friendly and helpful welcome. Superb bedroom, most comfortable bed and excellent shower, and a good tv. And then came the bar and restaurant, fabulous. Four beers on draft plus the usual selection of lagers etc. And a really good evening menu, with enough dishes you would like to try so a return visit is inevitable!! Beautifully presented, great quality. And so after a comfortable and quiet nights sleep, a super breakfast with lots of choice. I will be delighted to return
The hotel is located right on the High Street in the center of town which makes it very convenient to restaurants, shops, train station, etc.
