Offering a restaurant, La Iguana Perdida is located in Santa Cruz La Laguna, right on Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. When I arrived I was greeted with a kiss on the cheek. The warmest welcome I’ve received in my 18mths+ travelling. I stayed in the budget dorm and it was quite basic but comfortable with extra blankets if needed. The common space with hammocks was my favourite place to sit and watch the day go by. The family dinners and bbq were top notch. Not to be missed. Delicious food and lots of it! Such a treat to sit at a long table and enjoy a meal with others. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. I didn’t venture far from the property, I was looking for an oasis to unwind, relax and read a book. This was it for sure!
Offering a garden and Atitlán Lake views, Arca de Noé is located in Santa Cruz La Laguna, 15 minutes’ by boat from Panajachel town center. Free Wi-Fi access in public areas is available. The views onto the lake were exceptional. We stayed in a lake front bungalow with hammock and 2 chairs, where you could enjoy the sun all day and see the sun set behind the mountains. The lake was clear and very refreshing. The rooms thoughtfully designed... when waking up you’ll see the lake and maybe already some busy hummingbirds.
Located 0.6 mi from Santa Cruz La Laguna indigenous village, Casa Prana Villa & Suites offers an outdoor pool, a furnished terrace and 9-acres garden. Rooms are beautifully designed and spacious, fire place in the room is a big +. Food was fresh and every meal was an experience. Very green, no unnecessary waste. Friendliest staff, and fun to talk to
Atitlan Sunset Lodge Apartments are located on the shores of Lake Atitlan in Santa Cruz La Laguna and boast excellent volcano views. Free Wi-Fi and kayak use are provided at this property. One of the most amazing places we've ever stayed at- easy to get to (we never had to wait for more than 10 minutes for a boat to Panajachel) but so beautiful and peaceful, especially in the mornings and evenings. Can't recommend it enough!
Located just outside Santa Cruz La Laguna, this hotel offers free Wi-Fi, an outdoor pool, views of Lake Atitlan and the 3 volcanoes beyond. Its Hummingbird spa has a gym and hot tub. The view from the entire property is breathtaking. The property amenities, staff and service outstanding.
Located in Santa Cruz La Laguna, Lake Front Suite features a restaurant, bar, garden, and free WiFi throughout the property. We had a wonderful time staying at this spot. The hosts were helpful, gracious and kind, responsive and available but never intrusive. It was like visiting family or friends. Incredibly beautiful spot.
Featuring a restaurant, a garden, and a terrace, Lake View Cabin provides accommodations in Santa Cruz La Laguna with free WiFi and garden views. Decided to come here for my birthday and do a solo trip! Lee and Elaine are the best!!!! From scheduling multiple shuttles to giving me the best directions to reach their property, I cannot thank them enough! Thank you for a memorable birthday trip!
Boasting a restaurant, a bar, and a garden, Lake Front Retreat offers accommodations in Santa Cruz La Laguna with free WiFi and garden views. The property has lake views and is 12 mi from Panajachel. Amazing location right on the lake in Santa Cruz only reachable by boat from Panajachel or the other small villages along the lake. This was a beautiful 2 bedroom, 1 bath house with awesome outdoor kitchen/living space. Nice lawn and landscaping led down to the dock which we enjoyed swimming from everyday. The kitchen was well stocked even though we barely used it. Lee and Elaine were super gracious hosts who help run a non profit that educates locals in buisness enterprises. They invited us to join them for pizza night at the non profit's restaurant and invited us for dinner in their home on our last night. They are extremely knowledgeable of the area and provide their own fantastic tours ranging from hiking, kayaking, rock climbing, and much more. Sitting in those rocking captain chairs on the huge porch looking at the lake and amazing volcano across the way with margaritas in hand was awesome. Thanks guys!

Great people -- I had an awesome time visiting the town a couple different nights while staying down near the docks -- get a tuk-tuk up and walk back down --- no problems at all. Everyone treated me very kindly. I want to return as soon as I have the opportunity. Santa Cruz La Laguna is beautiful, safe, and the people are friendly.
Very small town with virtually nothing going on. It is very steep terrain so use a tuk-tuk to get up into town. Cecap has a great restaurant and gift shop but if you want to eat dinner out you must make a reservation by 3 or 5 PM depending on location ( there were like 3). If you are cooking your own food bring groceries with you from Pana or elsewhere, as the town is a food desert. The locals are about the nicest, warmest people you’d ever hope to meet. This is a wonderful tranquil base to explore all Lake Atitlan has to offer.
Interesting Mayan village high above the lake, friendly inhabitants, lots of healthy and approachable street dogs, and superb massage from Elaine at Elements Spa further west along beach. Difficult walking along beach due to crazy patchwork of concrete walkways, random stairways, ptotufing nails and elevation changes. Decent dinner at Colibi restaurant in Arce de Noe hotel.
Santa Cruz is a small village with excellent views that you need to work to get to (the hike up the hill to the village is steep). The folks that live there will double the price of whatever you buy, so be prepared to bargain. A good place to walk to to support the community (locally made goods and good restaurant with an amazing view) is CECAP (Cafe Sabor).
We took 2 different village tours. They were absolutely terrific filled with culture of the Mayan peoples of the western highlands. We saw first hand weaving, pottery, artistry, how chocolate is made, and numerous churches of Mayan and Catholic mix. We saw rituals also. Dina our guide was so knowledgable and her English superb. We would have prefered staying at least another 2 days one for just resting and another to take another tour with Pedro's tour agency, now called Volcan Tours.
