The city was chosen as it was the destination of my ferry. The ancient architecture was one of the most interesting features for me, although I didn't have time to look closely. I enjoyed the old part of the city in which the apartment is situated.
Overnight stay at excellent accommodation literally within a very short walk to cruise port entrance. A real gem B&B. Hostess was fantastic and let us stay in room until 11:30 am before our embarkation at port.
It was beautiful. They still had their Christmas decorations up and it was lovely to watch people with their families stroll down the streets. Even the music as you strolled made it a special moment. So many wonderful restaurants, café, and shops. The weather could not have been better.
I was only in Civitavecchia to catch a cruise but had a wonderful stay there. In early December, it was very peaceful with autumn leaves everywhere which added to the atmosphere. A quiet peaceful town with a lovely atmosphere. It was a nice change of pace after the frenetic energy of Rome.
Transfers to the port and hotel from Rome are quite dear. Take the train! Some nice restaurants on the sea front, which is very nicely laid out. Use the cheap local bus from outside the railway station to transfer to the cruise port.
This is the port of Rome and important for cruise ships. There is a good supermarket in town. The port is inaccesible to anyone without a permit, and it is too far to walk from the gates into the cruise terminal. The two B & B's (Country Cottage and Mabell Guest House) we stayed in were in the countryside and very peaceful and good to unwind after a trip. However, you need a car to get to town from these and there are no nearby restaurants. You can order in pizza.
