Cortona is a beautiful city. Full of wonderful old buildings and paintings by Fra Angelica and other masters. Lovely little vicoli to wander in and marvel at. Very hilly so you’ll keep fit! Lovely cafes and restaurants. Perfect!

I ate at La Grotta and Tonnini, both excellent. I love the museums and the lovely long park with a stunning view. One of my favorite hill towns. It is steep in places, but worth the effort. I think Cortona lacks out door eating and calling cafes ....mind you I did visit in January but other cities have outdoor heaters so that visitors or even locals can enjoy sitting out on clear sunny but cold days. Not much option if any if you are wanting to eat between 3 and 8pm ... but finding most places in Italy in the small historical towns are the same. Cortona is just amazing! It's what you can dream of an holiday in Tuscany. moreover is very strategic as it's close to everything: Florence, Siena, Perugia, Arezzo, Val D'orcia. It's just perfect
