We were greeted by all the staff with a little welcome drink while our luggage was already brought to our tent. Our standard tent / room was beautiful, tidy and clean but also made us feel like real jungle pioneers at night, where we could hear nothing but the river and the animals - no Tuktuk honking for once! Our bbq candle light dinner at the river bank was a mix of local and western food and very romantic. The staff is very friendly and tended to all our needs. Breakfast and pool were fantastic too. 10/10 glamping experience - would recommend and do again if possible!

Very beautiful facilities, the spaces are really nicely designed and wellkept, management and staff very helpful and professional. Super nice pool and fantastic traditional dinner and fish’n chips. Also organized safari tour for us with great guide who knew a lot about the different animals and really cared for the animals and environment. The best place we’ve stayed at in Sri Lanka and really very good value for your money! We’d love to come back!

Sujee and his family are amazing people and make you feel so settled into the accommodation. The rooms are very spacious and have a great balcony which looks out onto the river/the jungle. His wife is an AMAZING cook, she cooked traditional Sri Lankan foods for me throughout my stay which was an extra bonus! I would like to thank Sujee, his wife, his children, his brothers and his brothers wives for personally inviting me into their home over the Sri Lankan new years. I am a solo traveler and did not have to worry about anything at all - Sujee sorted out my travel to Udawalawe and my travel onwards to Colombo!! The Safari tour was such an amazing experience, Sujee is SO knowledgeable about all sorts of different animals and he is a great driver. Thank you again for making my trip so enjoyable and making me feel so at ease!

Nice national park where you will see for sure elefants and water buffalo’s. Also a lot of other smaller species. Without 4WD you will not make it, however all safaris have only 4WD safari cars and guides that have eagle eyes. Don‘t expect to see predators, even if leopards are living in the park, you might be very lucky to see them!

Based on my experience of visiting Sri Lanka over 40 times, I have to say that compared to other places, it appears to be an area where businesses aim to extract high amounts of money from tourists. Many establishments, including surrounding restaurants, seem to follow this practice. There are only a few safaris as the main attraction, and apart from that, there isn't much else to see. When it comes to food choices, everything seems to be the same, and there are no unique dishes or specialties that can only be found here.

People mainly go there to do a wildlife safari and quickly return to Ella, Galle, or other nearby nicer towns. Or they arrive to stay at s B&B one night - then do an early morning 4 hour safari - then get in a car to leave. I stupidly stayed in Udawalawe rural non-tourist village near the wildlife park for 2 nights where there were no restaurants or stores with A/C to buy food or bottled water. It’s definitely not set up for non-Sri Lankan travelers to linger.

It is money based place.
It is money based place. There is nothing much to do around if you are not going to safari. Only one nice place to visit: Bambaragala Aranya Senasanaya. Everything else is under electric fence even you cant sit by the dam to see the sunset only standing on the road. Doesn’t have access to nature or trekking … Locals are charging too much for safari, especially if you are traveling alone is not worth…

Udawalawe is all about the national park and the amazing elephants. We had 2 nights but one would have been plenty and would have preferred an extra night at the coast. I would recommend arrive early afternoon, visit elephant orphanage and then do an early morning safari the next day before heading on to your next destination.

We made this booking suddenly and on the day of our stay. But the staff quickly arranged a delicious dinner for us on very short notice. We will definitely come back and highly recommend this place.

Friendly staff and delicious food. The room is surrounded by trees and bushes. in the middle of the bush, birds singing all the time, and we even had a peacock fly right over us. We walked up to Udawalawe Dam to watch the sunset, and it was one of the best scenes we experienced in Sri Lanka. We’ll be back for sure.
