These hotels in Mazunte are highly rated by couples: Posada Olivo, OceanoMar, and Hotel El Copal.
Small beach town with not much going on besides beach, tourist clothing shops and dining options. The ocean is beautiful but a bit rough at the time we visited in early November. You can rent an umbrella to have shade. There appeared to be a little night life on a few small roads leading to the beach but we didn’t go there for that so I can’t speak from experience.
Mazunte is best seen from the beaches. The town was not really our thing. It is not attractive unless you like dusty bohemian chaos. Great people watching. The beaches are beautiful. We found few fine restaurants (admittedly we did not sample all of the restaurants). El Copal was a gem.
I think we got to Mazunte at just about the right time. Major development work has occurred recently which will definitely alter the whole feel of the place going forward. If you're staying in the centre of Mazunte, be prepared for the fact that the predominant visitor is under 35
Some of the food options were great! We tried on "Authentic" Mexican kitchen and we knew we were in trouble when we heard the constant Ding, Ding, Ding from the microwave. Estrella Fugaz has great Mexican food, great coffee, nice view, but the staff don't seem to be very happy. This place has this European Modern Hippie culture going on. This is not your "Buenos Dias" kind of place, and the small sleepy Mexican Village feeling is lost in the often emotionless faces quickly walking by with their expresso and bread. We liked saying "Buenos Dias" just to watch the empty "no replies" walk by. Even the locals seem as if they are trapped in their own country, and some opened up at how much it has changed over the years, and their little town is no more. There is very little that would draw me back to Mazunte, and there are so many other places to visit that still have that sleepy little Mexican life to it, and where complete strangers can look at you in they eye, and with a smile and say "Buenos Dias"
Mazunte is a Place for hippies. The foreigners who live there do not integrate with the locals and it really doesn’t feel like Mexico anymore. Everything is overpriced, BUT Mazunte in itself with the beautiful landscape is very beautiful place
Mazunte has a very cool feel and bohemain vibe with a laid back atmoshpere! Locals are extremely friendly and welcoming and English is widely spoken. Many unique and awesome restaurants and everything is walkable in the town itself. However San Augustanillo and Zipolite are immediately close by and should be checked out as well so rent a scooter or take a taxi to see these places which offer their own unique perspective in this gorgeous part of Oaxaca!
Posada Olivo is a wonderful place to stay. The matured garden is gorgeous with lots of decorative touches. There is a well functional outdoor communal kitchen which could be very handy for someone who likes to prepare their own meals while staying in the area. I liked our room with a private terrace, and a large bed that was very comfortable. The location is also great right between Mazunte and Augustinilli beach. The host Marco was very welcoming and gave good us good advice about what to do and where to eat.
Mazunte
The room was absolutely perfect. It was so clean and very well laid out. The perfect amount of space and comfort. The fans provided were more than adequate, and the customer service from Carla and everyone on the property was far above expectations. It's one of those places that just has a great vibe. Everyone staying on the property was so friendly and the nearness to everything, yet the quietness, made this my go-to spot whenever I go back to Mazunte. Thanks for everything Carla!
Cocolia felt like arriving to a cocoon of calmness! Everything was exceptional! The bed was so comfortable, the sound of the ocean made you feel like you were immersed in it! The staff was very attentive and the food delicious! Be aware that this hotel is very secluded, walking to town would be 20mins off-road. Not a hassle if you are prepared, rather nice to have the feeling of being one with nature.
Mazunte
Very clean and comfortable. Great AC which is definitely needed at night. Large, comfortable King bed. Basic kitchen amenities with fresh fruit/vegetable market and bakery close by. You can walk everywhere in Mazunte and San Agustinillo with easy access to both Playa Rinconcito and San Agustinillo. Lovely owner who is very responsive, kind and speaks perfect English if you don’t speak Spanish.
Both King rooms we stayed in were huge and beautifully decorated. The pool was lovely after a hot day. Kitchen facilities were top quality. It’s a short, safe walk (approximately 7 minutes) on a flat but unpaved road to the main street in Mazunte. Another 10 minutes to the beach. No hills so good for any fitness level. We would definitely stay again!
The location was fantastic! Personally we felt that we stayed at the perfect hotel on mazunte since it’s at the end and most people gathered on the other side. Waking up to the beach was lovely! Room was clean and close distance to the town.
Loved the space, cute little art gallery in the lobby, rooms were comfy and well-decorated. Super stylish! One of the few places in mazunte with AC so that was definitely a plus. Close walk to a yoga studio and to the main road.
the rooms are brand new and everything works well. air conditioning, ceiling fan, TV. the pool was refreshing. the only issue was it seemed a bit pricey but we booked this place when leaving a different hotel that we hated.
The room is pretty big which was great. The WiFi was just ok but good enough to get work done. The highlight is how close you are to everything so you’re never in the hotel anyways.
Hotel was beautiful with everything we could possibly need made available. Location was a very easy walk into the centre of town.
Mazunte
Very, very central location in the heart of Mazunte. Paula is very helpful. Room is comfy and good value for money.
The room is very basic however that is Mazunte. No A/C & the fan was extremely slow
Mazunte
