Jen and Cary are so nice people, and they prepared very nice breakfast during our stay which is the best one I ever had in Australia and NewZealand. My son likes them very much and I feel even a bit sad when I am leaving. I hopel to see them again.

Located on 6 acres of native gardens on the Coromandel Peninsula, this B&B offers a large pool, grass tennis court, free breakfast and free Wi-Fi. Wonderful hosts, super friendly and helpful. Great cooked breakfasts. Thorold House is quiet, private but wonderfully accessible to the Coromandel peninsula. The room was clean, comfy and very quiet. The private garden area was great to sit in and enjoy the evening.
Love Thames I used to visit when I was young but have moved to the USA. Always love returning to visit my family that lives here. Love the bakery stores! Small town for walking around and people are friendly.
When we got to the Regional Park we found out that the Pinnacles trail had been disrupted by weather and was closed. The ranger at the headquarters was not very encouraging for local walks. We started walking anyway and met up with a maintenance ranger who was so much more helpful and set us on our way to hike a couple of lookouts. We should have checked the status of the trails before we got there. We probably would have changed our plans.
I liked the town, but probably I would have liked it more , the more I found out. Coffee shops were good, but I think it needs a few good restaurants there. There are a few really good tough hikes in the area. I think there is a bit of history there too.
Thames is a pleasant drive from Auckland airport and a good place to start a driving tour of the Coromandel Peninsula. There is an interesting Street market on Saturday morning and plenty of reasonable eating places. It is a compact little town with a Paknsave supermarket if you have chosen self catering. The drive to Coromandel town is unlike anything you are likely to find elsewhere. Views across Hauraki Gulf are splendid on a fine day. Beaches are a little too stony but there are plenty of rock pools to explore at low tide. For the more energetic there is a lovely bush walk starting from Victoria Street by the holiday park.
Spending a day or at least stopping in Thames for lunch is highly recommended. Lots of shops and restaurants conveniently located down town. I also HIGHLY recommend staying at Nightingale Falls Farm Stay!
Thames was a stopover point for us. We went for a nice stroll before enjoying a nice feed of fish & chips at "The Wharf". The Kumara chips were awesome. The town seemed really quiet, but has many facilities, shops etc. Well worth a look. Next time we need to stay a bit longer to discover a bit more of the area.

Fantastic hosts, so welcoming and it was lovely to be greeted with tea and cake on our arrival. Pauline was able to advise us on where to visit in Coromandel peninsula- we stopped here for 1 night on our way to Whitianga- and it was fascinating talking to her about her hiking experiences. Amazing location high above Thames with glorious views from deck. Highly recommend.

It was different to the normal hotel room as it was like a chalet and we had sea views, just out of town but easy to go into the town. The bait, icecream store just around the corner cheapest cone ice creams in NZ. The owners were extremely friendly and helpful - great stay for two days. We stayed at Thanes as a shorter drive to Auckland when we left.

The hosts were wonderful and the furnishings beautiful. The suite we had was on par with a luxury hotel. The views from the room and private deck/balcony were amazing. Also the kitchenette and sitting area was well stocked. They have thought of everything to make your stay so comfortable. Breakfast was delicious!

Have you stayed at Motel 6, or Super 8? Basically the same, but with a small kitchen and more clean. Decently clean for my standards, which are moderately high. Bed sheets and towel very clean. Gave us free milk and cookies! Just kidding, pretty sure the last guests forgot them in the fridge.

Friendly owners. Convenient location both for the small town and as a gateway to the peninsula. Well equipped rooms with all the amenities needed. Well above the quality of an average New Zealand motel.

The location was fantabulous- very unique overlooking the Firth of Thames. Mr Scott and Katherine were so warm and cooperative. We had a lovely evening chit chatting with them by the bonfire

This is an adequate two star hotel. The only redeeming thing is sunset. Sitting on your little deck and with an unobstructed view across the bay of the sunset is great.

Fantastic B&B! Great hosts and great facilities which were extremely clean and homely. Location is perfect if doing trails in the ranges, including the Pinnacles. The hosts also put in a little extra effort with subtle touches that make it a great place to stay. Spa was perfect after a day of hiking. The Breakfast spread exceeded our expectations.

Great place to stay. Swimming hole on the creek was a bonus since the pump on the pool was broken. But owner said part was on order. Would recomend this to friends.
