If your idea of a night out is dressing up and going out to a restaurant, Faro is an ideal location, but otherwise, there is a lack of entertainment in the evening, and it is not a great location for a solo traveller as it seemed to be a place more for families and couples. However, it is a great spot for being near great beaches.
Having never visited Faro before, I was very pleasantly surprised. The hotel we stayed at was in an area being updated but as we walked down to the centre it reminded us of the Ramblas in Barcelona with a great vibe, restaurants, courtyards, friendly people and great value too! We will definitely return.
Faro is underrated. I think people just want to get out. They have faro beach which i think is underrated and good place to watch the sunset. Old town is good and food options are also good. I would spend 2 days here but maybe consider staying near the beach on the island.
I really like Portugal/Portuguese people. I have mixed feelings about Faro. It seems recent tourism trends have, for me, made Faro less interesting and attractive than it once was. Sad to see abandoned old houses in the traditional style, crumbling synagogue etc... But no shortage of indestinct bars and businesses servicing the budget tourist trade.
I don't understand why people have recommended this city in travel websites there is literally nothing to see or do here and also the nearest sea side town is Albufeirra which is 30min away by train/car so why not stay by the sea side in Albufeira or Lagos town instead? Sure you can stop here for a 30min visit but its pretty much a very small town.
Faro is a charming small city with a nice center and nice and helpful people everywhere. The buildings are nice but not allvery well kept/ preserved. Lots of terraces and restaurants where you can try different kinds of salted cod (bacalhau) or cataplanas. To be honest, not all of them were great, but they were cheaper compared with restaurants from other countries so...Great selection of sweets and I trully enjoyed every day pastel de nata and in the afternoon ice cream from."Vanilla Faro". We went to the Faro beach by ferry. A round trip is 3 euro and it takes 30 min to get to the beach from the Porta Nova pier near the marina and the Science Museum. The trip to Faro beach is worth a try. I advise to be prepared with some windbreakers and warm clothes . If you go for a swim, than bring some towels to dry after. It gets pretty windy oand chilly at the beach. For a nice view over the city I recommend a climb to the tower of Faro Cathedral- exceedingly ornate, with chapels and a nice garden.Carmo church with its Bone Chapel is worth a visit, too. I loved the fact that every point of interest was at walking distance from the place we stayed(Rua do Alportel). We walked to the Algarve Mall and spend a day there shopping, eating and having fun. We took the train for a one day visit to Lagos. Totally worth it because in this way we discovered our next holiday destination😉... Our stay in Faro was a bit too long - 7 days. I would say that 3-4 days are enough to get to see what this city has to offer. Even so, I had a great and relaxed vacation and I would recommend visiting Faro to anyone. It has good food, a beach, a lagoon with a National Nature Park, places to satisfy the eventual need to get in touch with the history and culture of this part of the world and great inhabitants, always happy to teach you words in Portuguese or things about their culture.
Everything..breakfast was so fresh and eaten in the roof top restaurant, so great views too. The hotel location is so good, overlooking the harbour, so always changing skies and views. Surrounded by beautiful walls through cobbled streets. The drivers are very courteous too, always stop at zebra crossings. The shops and restaurants within a few minutes walk remind you that you're in Portugal with lovely local food and goods.
Faro
We had a late arrival and keys left in key box with codes given to us - really easy process. It was in a perfect area for us - we could walk wherever we wanted. close to the waterfront, bus station, shops and great restaurants. We had breakfast at the Cinderela restaurant (which was included) which was really good!! We love Faro and would definitely stay at Casa Portugal on our return - host was amazing!!
100% recommended. Very nice and clean place. The biggest surprise was a really lovely terrace and a garden with orange trees. We could also go to the rooftop to watch the stars at night. :) Unfortunately we stayed just one night before our flight back but we are really glad that we chose this cozy place over the other hotels close to Faro airport. Thank you!
Praia de Faro, Faro
The location was perfect, literally a stone throw away from one of the best beaches in Portugal, and so close to Faro airport. The host was amazing, Marcos gave us all the local knowledge and recommended the best places to go, and also stocked up the apartment kitchen with all the basics needed.
Location. Best Hotel in Faro. Good food and modern. Staff couldn’t be more helpful and very friendly. Roof top bar I had the best Amaretto Sour I have ever had - superb- great way to end a holiday. Only 15 mins from airport. Faro old town 5 mins walk away - a hidden gem.

Out of all of the countries I’ve been to, this hotel’s bathroom was definitely one of the best! A lovely Best Western in a town in Portugal, and the best bathroom I’ve ever used! Lovely big stone shower, and space, and lighting. Perfect!! Comfy bed, good tv and windows.
It is OK for 1 night as so close to the airport. The Hotel provides a shuttle service to the airport which is convenient. I Booked a double room as I do not like single rooms. If you are staying longer they also have a shuttle service to the Beach and Faro
