FAQs about hotels in Faro

Colourful, Historic, and Sunny

Faro is the picturesque capital of the Algarve region, offering colourful streets and buildings, Moorish influence, and typical Portuguese charm. It is encompassed by the lagoon of Ria Formosa Natural Park, and offers wide beaches, a laid-back atmosphere, and a vibrant nightlife.

Occupied by Phoenicians and Carthaginians, and once an important Roman harbour and Moorish culture capital, it was almost flattened by the 1755 earthquake. Happily, the historic centre survived and is today one of best preserved in Algarve. Choosing a hotel in Faro’s Old Town will allow you to have a more authentic Portuguese experience.

The long, sandy beach of Praia de Faro is 7 km from the city, and the beach on Barreta Island –also known as Deserta - is probably the most tranquil in the region. Hotels near the beach in Faro and the surrounding towns of Olhão, Tavira, Quinta do Lago, Quarteira and Vilamoura, are all excellent ways to enjoy sunny Portugal.

Faro International Airport offers connections throughout Europe, and the city also offers ferry, railway, and bus links. Whether you need a beach resort or a hotel near Faro Airport, check out the wide offer available on Booking.com!

Faro is an excellent city for a short break.

Faro is an excellent city for a short break. The weather in February was amazing, the area is on the up, the local people are so welcoming and the food and drink scene is emerging. We took the shuttle to the Ilha Deserta which was fantastic and a complete change from being in the centre of Faro. We ate at Epicur which has amazing reviews but we ended up in the middle of a private party which wasn't that relaxing. The food was amazing however and the service was great. We had drinks at Bago, and the sunset cocktail bar, both of which were also amazing. The highlight was lunch at Estamine on the Ilha Deserta. The food was delicious but the setting takes your breath away. Would highly recommend.

Faro has a wonderful old town centre with lots of stores, restaurants and things to see like the walled town area. The town is very clean and well taken care of. The town is nice to walk around. We took the ferry to the beach which was about half hour and walked the beach area. The train and bus stations are close to the city centre which makes it convenient to walk and travel. This is a great place to spend 3-4 days.

Lovely people, easy to get around, excellent food and drink.

Lovely people, easy to get around, excellent food and drink. Not millions of things to do but if you’re happy pottering around and just chilling then this is a good place. No time difference either. Bonus! Can’t think of anything I didn’t like, however beware if you’re heading to Ria Formosa national park and Praia Barrera beach you CAN NOT walk there. You need to get on a boat. The website looks like you can walk but it’s deceptive.

There is not a lot for young families but for adults it’s perfect. You can do the bar, nightclub thing or just relax. Nice shops, cafes and fabulous restaurants. It’s perfect for chilling in the sun. There is always entertainment at the marina. A great place for a long weekend. Faro is easy to walk by foot. The old town is made up of old buildings that are being lovingly restored and has lots of stunning apartments to stay in.

Sadly it seems we went on an off season, holiday weekend so apart from restaurants, bars, clubs, chain stores and a few gift shops, few small shops were open. There are some lovely historic buildings, the marina area is pretty. Some of it is a little run down, there’s loads of graffiti, if you plan to stay more that 48 hours you would definitely need to travel out of Faro but apparently there’s some very pretty places 20/30 mins away, public transport is good, and Ubers super cheap!

The staff was extremely friendly and had a ton of great information about what to do in and around Faro. There is also free coffee and other hot drinks available in a side room just off the reception desk. The rooms were very clean, very quiet and we had more than enough space. The kitchen comes equipped with a variety of kitchen ware that allows you to cook your own meals if you wish and the tea selection was excellent. Loved the peaceful view out on the large balcony as well. Will return to this hotel next time we are in Faro.

Very up-to-date hotel;; smart, and modern. Room was clean and quiet, even though in a busy area.of town Front desk (Hugo) were polite and friendly. The rooftop restaurant was exceptional, wait staff Joana a lovely person.. we enjoyed the view over the harbour .. underground parking is helpful, in a busy area of the city. We only stayed one night before catching our flight home at Faro airport. We left too early for breakfast, but were given a boxed breakfast to take with us; juice, sandwiches and an apple.

Amazing location right in the historic center of Faro, just a short walk away from all the main sights, great restaurants, bars and shopping. The room was spacious and comfortable, and the bathroom was larger than most bathrooms I've seen in Portugal, with nice toiletries provided. We were sent the check-in info via Whatsapp since there's no reception because of COVID, but the instructions were detailed and easy to follow.

It was convenient to get to from faro airport. We were travelling onto Tavira on the train, the hotel is very close to the station. It is close to shops and restaurants. The room was very good and they accommodated us with single beds. The kitchen was useful to make hot drinks and a food if needed. There was a nice sitting out area around the pool which had a coffee machine. We were very satisfied with our stay.

Excellent small boutique hotel, great price and great location steps from the center of Faro. Only a 5 minute walk to bus and train stations making it easy to get anywhere in Portugal. It is a bit loud from street noise but bring ear plugs and it is totally a great value for a reasonably priced hotel easy walking to all the key sites in Faro. The restaurant is awesome with very fair prices as well.

Great little hotel in Faro. Really close to the train station, and the central old town. The staff was very helpful. Gave a great recommendation for lunch just up the street from the hotel - one of the better meals we had in Portugal. We had a room off the back with a little balcony, very quiet, great view of the storks and their nests on the neighboring church. The breakfast was also very good!

A small hostel situated directly on the beach. Just ten steps away and you have the sea! Its a short 10 minute drive to the airport and then you can take the ferry from the beach into the Faro downtown for 2.30 euros one way. The beach is quiet at night and even though the hostel was full it was not too loud at night. It was fairly clean and a good deal for the money.

Reasonable hotel rate. Good location not really far away from the historic center of Faro. Very basic but good in appearance and clean room. They put me on the 2nd floor and the city view from my room was very nice. Comfortable bed. A bathtub big enough to lay down and relax. The hotel is pet friendly, but there is a pet fee per night.

Rooms We booked this hotel because it has a 4 star rating after being disappointed in the original booking in Faro Portugal. It is lovely with great, helpful and kind Staff. We were able to get some supper in the snack bar. Also, because it is in a newer part of Faro it had plenty of free parking
