More traffic than I expected approaching the fort area.

More traffic than I expected approaching the fort area. The weather definitely has an impact on the experience, if it is wet and windy it is difficult to enjoy the beaches and coastal walks and the town does not have much else to offer.

This windswept town at the edge of Europe has its own magic, especially during the peak bird migration season in late September/early October. The annual Birdwatching Festival is fabulous! Sagres was the seat of 15th-16th c. European seafaring exploration when Portugal's navigation technology began (and controlled) it all, with many legends surrounding that history. The natural setting around the town is a gift to hikers and walkers. Surfers clearly love it here, too. Tourism means that most service staff speak a range of languages to assist you, and you will hear many languages around you. The town itself is pretty and very pleasant to walk in, with an impressive range of restaurants, and most basic services available (with more shopping for essentials to be found in Vila do Bispo to the north for a longer stay if you have a car or are comfortable using the Vamus Algarve bus system). The beaches are impressive, but most require mobility to manage long stairways. Sagres is an iconic destination!

I don't over research things or over plan things because I often find that too much planning can lead to too much disappointment... However perhaps on this occasion I could have researched Sagres more... It wasn't at all what I was expecting... My informal approach to life once again came up trumps again... Sagres wasn't at all what I had fleetingly imagined, but in just 2 short days I really got to like the place, very much indeed... I would guess it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea but you most certainly don't have to be a surfer... It is beautifully picturesque, simple and has some very lovely bars and everyday people. The restaurants I used were excellent... I wandered in to a very working mans sports bar opposite a boules park, right next to where you get on and off the main buses and close to the Tourist information place... The very tall man helped the girl serving when I rejected a glass for my bottle of beer, I would say the cheapest in town and I asked for a tissue to wipe the top instead, I went back the day after, again the bar was busy with locals, the tall man without me asking produced a tissue and a smile, you certainly wouldn't want to fall out with him though... Just another of the very TOP people I have been lucky enough to bump into on my travels... SAGRES is not the end of the world after all...

This place is really about surfing and the beaches are beautiful, there are no crowds anywhere. The water is ideal for refreshing, but not suitable for small children to splash around in. It's even a bit dangerous because the waves are big. If you don't surf, the fact that the sun shines all the time might be attractive, but you won't get baked because it's 20-22 degrees.

Loved Sagres. Very quiet and laid back.

Loved Sagres. Very quiet and laid back. Great atmosphere everywhere with locals and tourists alike. Had some lovely meals, nice walks, hardly any traffic, a joy to quietly unwind in. I would highly recommend Sagres time apartments. Lovely pool area, very well kept, quiet & relaxing. Apartment clean and spacious. Nice big balcony. Staff were wonderful. Highly recommend. Everywhere we ate we enjoyed it very much. Sagres is very walkable. No need for a car.

Sagres is at the very western tip of the Algarve and has few retired expats and no package holiday makers. Its a small Portugese community with lots of young people and independent travellers who mix well and many come to surf and walk. Its got some great bars along the top of Mareta beach and people come here to do their own thing, enjoy the wild and rugged Atlantic coastline and the towns like Carrapateira, Bordeira and Aljezur

Small development of 10 villas, quiet location, short walk to the main street of Sagres and beaches. Lovely villa, very clean and comfortable, pool was great. Communication with the host was excellent and a special mention to Maria, the local contact who was brilliant, answered any questions we had very quickly.

The hotel stands in a beautiful location right next to a large sandy beach. It includes a pizzeria. It has a smaller pool with a bar. Each room has a terrace equipped with furniture and bordered by a hedge (we had enough privacy). The room was a reasonable size with a spacious bathroom.
