Villa Mara Carmel, Carmel Bay View Inn, and Hofsas House Hotel are some of the popular hotels in Carmel.
La Playa Carmel, Tally Ho Inn, and Hofsas House Hotel got great room view-related reviews from travelers in Carmel.
Many families visiting Carmel loved staying at Horizon Inn & Ocean View Lodge, Tradewinds Carmel, and La Playa Carmel.
Our one night at LaPlaya: Room was SMALL and felt TIGHT. BOOKED A 2 QUEEN BED WITH AN OCEAN VIEW. The "VIEW" was over two rooftops. Could not comfortably fit two suitcases in without obstructing the two chairs in the seating area. at $600/ NIGHT for a Thursday, this seemed unreasonably high, Friday night the same room goes for over $700! After over twenty-five years of staying at LaPlaya, we feel it has priced itself out of the market.
Central, easy parking gives access to several attractive streets with plenty of opportunities to shop, drink coffee/cocktails and dine, but all can become a little busy at peak times. The beach, walkable from the center, is very clean but deep seaweed collects in some areas. A walk along the scenic route to Mara Beach and the Carmel River State Beach is highly recommended. We loved Flying Fish Grill (expensive but fabulous quality, book well ahead) and Portabella (bustling but great food), but disliked Anton & Michel (unreasonably expensive, sterile atmosphere, un-engaging staff, unimpressive food). Be sure to make a visit to Sade's Cocktails on Lincoln Street
I have gone consecutively for the past 4 years to Carmel for my birthday and this is the first I stayed walking distancing to shops, restaurants and beach so it’s a big bonus for location of this Inn. I was disappointed they only have 7 parking spots but at least I was able to park on Mission without worrying about getting towed. The room has upgraded on painting and flooring. But they need to refinish the shower tub and replace shutters. There is no elevator so if you have heavy suitcases, it’s difficult to take up and down the stairs. We heard the waste management pick-up garbage every weekday morning btwn 7-8AM😳
This is a small town that doesn't seem American at all. It's pedestrian and dog friendly, with retro-looking cottages and lovely boutiques. Plenty of bars and restaurants. Easily accessible dog-friendly beach. Located close to Big Sur and viewpoints for local wildlife. A must stop if you are in the area
Enjoyed 17 mile drive and stopping to see the beautiful views, walking around downtown Carmel, tasting cheese at The Cheese Shop, sitting outside for a family wine tasting at Wrath, tasting chocolate caramels, eating a delicious lunch outdoors at Terry’s Lounge in the Cypress Inn and then relaxing at the pool at the Carmel Mission Inn where we stayed. Ate dinner outside at Sur at the Barnyard and finished our evening relaxing and chatting and laughing by the fire pit outstretched Carmel Mission Inn. Breakfast the next morning at FromScratch ( delicious French toast)
Power was off when we check in at 6pm The staff told us the power will be back before 9 But we were sitting in the dark without any electricity for the whole night. Cell phone went off, no hot water for shower I won’t check in if I know I was tricked by the wrong information The entire street has power, in fact the entire town has power but only this hotel Next morning talking to the manager Guess what, she said hotel has nothing wrong and refuse to refund or any compensation Very unhappy experience for spending $250 without any electricity The worst is the manager attitude She just don’t care!
Hotel Playa Carmel is quintessential California quaint. As we stroll through the town and down to the beach it was obvious there was nowhere else we want to stay in Carmel. The staff was excellent always happy and ready to assist. From beautiful breakfast buffets, coffee/tea service early each am (for east coasters!) to excellent cappuccinos upon request-All included in the hotel cost. Although everything in town is walkable the hotel offers a shuttle service at night for when you want to dress up/drink.
Carmel
Unlike a hotel or motel, these are cabins, so you don't hear noises from neighboring walls. Set in a lot of foliage, trees, bushes, flowers, grass, great small pond surrounded by lounge chairs and tables and chairs, a River Rock BBQ pit, pretty, clear small lights strung over and about; quiet, room itself very comfortable and everything worked; close enough to drive to the enchanting Ocean Ave. Downtown Carmel by the Sea shops within 5 minutes, to enjoy all of the wonderful shops and restaurants.
The rooms were renovated, very clean and comfortable. The breakfast is not very diversified (no eggs, cheese, cold meets, ...) but has the essential coffee, some pastries, cereals and a waffle machine :) The location is central to most shops and restaurants even though a bit further from the beach, however walkable. Considering it is Carmel by the Sea the price we had was excellent considering the quality of the Inn.
Really well kept and clean hotel in Carmel. It has its specific style, but definitely well mantained and extremely clean. Traveled in November, thus didn't use the pool, but that's a nice touch. Location is just perfect, everything at walking distance. The only hotel found in the trip in the US with a nice heating sytem that isn't noisy and keep temperature always stable in the room.
Excellent location, with the town of Carmel less than a 10-minute walk and the beach just a little over 20 minutes on foot. The outdoor communal area at the hotel was a nice touch and we enjoyed relaxing there in the evening after wandering around the town, with comfortable seating, and fires to keep us warm when the temperature dropped off.
Carmel
This place is like your favorite old flannel shirt. Safe, warm and cozy. Also some of the best shower water pressure in Carmel. Great views, pretty garden, everything’s clean. Only a block to Ocean Ave, and 10 minute walk to beach. They employ local seniors and many guests are perennial regulars.
The Cambridge Cottage was perfect. The location was excellent. We could walk to most everything. We felt like we were Carmel by the Sea residents for a couple of days. Loved they are so pet friendly, we brought our 3 little dogs. The beach is nearby and that was our ultimate destination!
Carmel
Located very close to Carmel´s downtown - 3-5 min walking distance. Quiet, friendly and comfortable hotel. Large pool. Friendly staff and welcoming lobby area with fire place, coffee and cookies. Comfortable bed. Sufficient parking spaces in parking lot.
Carmel
The hotel room was comfortable and clean. The room was cozy, with limited space to move around and small shower, but still very comfortable. Staff were very friendly. Excellent location to explore Carmel, as it is in the centre.
everything. Was super comfortable and Carmel by the sea is such a stunning and beautiful place. absolutely loved out stay. they had a nice alternative to breakfast as they couldn’t offer the usual due to covid.
