The River Suites, Kangaroo Island, hotel in Kingscote

Wanderers Rest on Kangaroo Island is a small seaside guest house. The beautiful venue has come into new management, a small family-run business.

Breakfast was as expected, maybe a little bit more variety would help, but being out of holiday season it's understandable. The host were terrific. They treated us like family and we appreciated their friendship. The location was a bit out of the way but if you're looking for peace and quite then you have it.

Kangaroo Island - Island Beach Shack, hotel in Kingscote

Offering a garden, Kangaroo Island - Island Beach Shack provides accommodations in Island Beach. There's a private entrance at the vacation home for the convenience of those who stay.

The shack was updated and modern. It was small but felt spacious, perfect for our family of 4. The kitchen was stocked with everything you need. There is a cooktop, no oven. There is a coffee machine, unfortunately there was only 1 pod. The coffee machine takes the standard size Nespresso pod In case you want to bring your own. Smart TV and Wifi were great. The beds were comfortable, with good quality, clean lined. The wild life coming up to the front of our shack was special. Only a 5 minute walk to the most beautiful beach. 15 minutes from Penneshaw and 1 hour from Kingscote.

Kingscote is a good central location for a KI exploration and had all the services we required. We visited during the off season when some dining options were unavailable, however there were sufficient to give us variety over our 5 night stay. The staff in every business were friendly and helpful.

We ate at the Ozone Hotel twice for our evening meal.

We ate at the Ozone Hotel twice for our evening meal. Great food and excellent service. Cactis Cafe for lunch and the food was wonderful service great. Scrumptious Cafe for lunch, my husband liked it, me not really. Amanda's Cafe twice for take away for our evening meal. Hamburgers and fish and chips. Fantastic ice cream cone! Bella Cafe and Pizza Bar. We had pizza 2 nights (we chose take away) and wow, great pizza! We loved the cliff path walk. Reeves Point and Bay of Shoals are a must. I loved the gift shop too. I wouldn't bother with American River unless you are a fisherman with a boat or you love fresh oysters. I wish we had made the effort to make sandwiches a couple of days because on the island you could start looking like a hamburger. The Penneshaw Post Office was a delight to visit. Really lovely people. We bought a great map there too. The chemist two doors up is small but the girl there was really lovely. If you have a prescription to fill they send it up to Kingscote to the pharmacist to have it filled and returned to you. We went to a lot of the spectacular sights. Highlights were Dudley Wines, Raptor Domain just beautiful and very informative. Millie Mae's Pantry is a must in Penneshaw. We had a ploughman's lunch which was excellent. This cafe is a true gem. Parndana is a must to visit in the centre of the island. Great people and the cafe was wonderful. For people with young children they have a great park which is fenced and that is where you find the toilets.

Kangaroo island has amazing wildlife and beautiful scenery. We saw penguins, sea Liam’s, wallabies and kangaroos in the wild. fFlinders chase national park is amazing and the beaches are empty. The one drawback is that the dining options are limited

Kingscote is a good base to explore KI. More time would be needed if you wanted to do the adventure stuff or family stuff. Visiting in late Autumn meant we were not interested in a lot of the water activities. Very pretty coastline.

We used Kingscote as our base and found it quite central to all the touring we did Thought there would be more food outlets for dinner but we managed with what was on offer There is a supermarket if we’d chosen to cook our own meals

Marcie and Chris were perfect hosts who supplied us with a great platform to explore Kangaroo Island. They supplied us with lots of extras like bread, butter, milk, wine bait, fresh garden vegetables. Nothing was too much trouble washing, giving us powder and pegs and samples of home made biltong ( dried meat). This was the best place, very clean, quiet and just out of Kingscote on average. Cheers Ian and Colleen.

The location was right in Kingscote where we wanted to be. The apt was available which was good as we booked last minute. It was clean, had a place for the car. The kitchen was well stocked with plates etc. Appreciated the there was coffee and milk available when we arrived. The owner was responsive when we had questions and wanted us to be comfortable.

The view and the cleanliness of the room was very good. The grounds of the hotel and outside appearance was excellent and we noted that they even had EV points for cars if you were driving an electric car. The bed and bedding was good, reasonably new and comfortable. The motel was situated in a quiet area of towns with views so that was lovely.

Modern, clean and thoughtfully furnished standalone villa with enough privacy from the other units. Had all the comforts of home, spacious bedrooms, full kitchen with some cooking essentials too which was a bonus. Short drive to Kingscote shops and 15 mins to Emu Bay. Would definitely recommend and stay again if we could!

The hotel is in an excellent location, right on the beachfront. There are big windows in the restaurant and bar downstairs, which look out over the ocean. It was a great place to watch the sunset while playing pool. The room was a good size with a nicely renovated bathroom. Bed was comfortable.
