This is one of my fav places in the world to visit but, unfortunately, sex tourism is becoming a big problem in Cartagena. As long as there is no control of the "demand", the supply will be there. It is about time this gets fixed. Some hotels do their part but the problem is bigger than one thinks. It is almost out of control. There are also places I would not dare to visit unless I am accompanied by several friends. Cartegena has so much culture and history. The food was fantastic! There is live music in every restaurant and bar. Traditional dancing can be found in the squares and you just need to tip. Just be aware of all the street hustlers, especially the rappers who will follow you. The old town comes alive after 8pm. Be prepared for the 90-100% humidity during the mid-day. The "Old City" is beautiful and historic - and has excellent gelato! Unfortunately, no Dr Pepper... The beaches are good, and provide a diversion (or a primary reason to go, if you are young) and a completely different atmosphere.

We did have an issue with the room we initially booked. Tatiana, who works at the front desk was exceptional. She went over and above to get us settled into another. I recommend rooms on floor 2 or higher - note there are no elevators and some stairs are quite steep. We loved the hotel's proximity in the city. The rooftop breakfast was delicious. The rooftop pool and lounge area were perfect to enjoy in the heat of the afternoon and relax.

Breakfast is nice, and the staff will do whatever you want them to do. We asked for poached eggs which they didn't know how to do, but they were willing to learn and it was great. The location is fantastic with restaurants on your doorstep, and you are in the old city and Getsemani is within walking distance. A fantastic place to stay.
