Beautiful little nook in the rainforest about a 5 minute drive from Río Celeste. Kenyan was AMAZING and so helpful. He noticed we had a flat and sent us to a shop down the road who took care of us. This place is like family!

Super fun two-night stay in this little neighborhood oasis. Owners are terrific and kind people, delicious breakfast and super filling (was not expecting that, thank you!). As others have mentioned, we sampled their homemade hot chocolate and the owner took us around on a little night tour of the gardens - especially loved seeing the sleeping birds all tucked in among the plants. Room, clean and comfy.

The location within the valley was great, with short walks through the neighborhood to other areas full of birds. There was a very good restaurant about 100 meters away and a well furnished kitchen.
The beds were comfortable and everything was very clean, and sitting on the verandah drinking our morning coffee or a glass of wine in the afternoon listening to and watching the birds was very relaxing and pleasant.
There were panederias, restaurants and markets within easy walking distance of the property.

Absolutely gorgeous area and a must-see for nature lovers!
Absolutely gorgeous area and a must-see for nature lovers! Tenorio National Park was wonderful, although quite crowded, so get there as early as possible. I highly recommend the hanging bridges trail at the Heliconias lodge because it was incredible and hardly anyone was there. We also got to see toucans on the road up there.

The town is essentially a series of businesses along Rte 6, a major road heading North/South. It’s about 1 mile in length. Beautiful vistas coming from the south and heading between the 2 volcanoes of Tenorio and Miravalles. The town is not picturesque but it’s surroundings are. Besides hiking to the waterfall and the lagoon of Rio Celeste, which is an amazing color, there’s not a lot to do (or not a lot to do that you haven’t done elsewhere in CR). For bird watchers, Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge and its boat tours on the river and lake come highly recommended. 2 nights of accommodations is good for most people. We stayed at Finca La Amistad, a working cacao farm, which I highly recommend. Bucolic surroundings, great owner and staff, nice accommodations and a nice chocolate tour makes it a great place to stay.

Great little hike, we were happy to have Jose, as our guide.
Great little hike, we were happy to have Jose, as our guide. He was very knowledgeable and fun. We only wished his english or our spanish were better! We saw lovely birds, including scarlet macaws, a bat, monkeys, lizards. The park has 2 access points and the unofficial one was better as it was more natural and you didn't hear traffic noise.

Be prepared for daily rain squalls even in "dry" season.
Be prepared for daily rain squalls even in "dry" season. Great cloud-forest hiking, especially to Catarata Bijagua--not many wild animals, but plenty of beautiful forests, rushing river, and waterfalls. In Bijagua, Restaurante/Pizzeria El Barrigon -- popular with locals as well as tourists -- has good-value casados.

Great lodges in wonderful garden with ponds, many birds , frogs, plants and trees. Fantastic host Victor who is most friendly, his wife also cooks great dinners and serves healthy breakfasts. Not far from national PARC and the lesser known but wonderful canu negro
Very easy to get to from Liberia airport, which makes for a great way to get north to see sloths and jungle for a few nights before you head to the beach. Grounds were beautiful. No AC in the rooms but fans provided and we were very comfortable at night. Breakfast was wonderful, and watching all of the birds was an added bonus. Went on a sloth tour at a spring paradise per hotel's recommendation and it was amazing. All in all, great two night stay and will definitely recommend to future friends.
This is such a special place. It is tucked into the rainforest and located on the Rio Celeste. There is a hiking trail and direct access to the gorgeous river, beautiful pool, tons of wildlife and exceptional food. The staff was phenomenal (thank you especially to Nelson, Jason and Ismael!). Our room and the entire hotel felt so luxurious but not pretentious at all. We were really blown away. Definitely one of our favorite places we have ever stayed. Can't recommend highly enough!
The breakfasts and dinners were great. They have a very good chef. The location was excellent- an easy drive to the Park as well as to the town of Bijagua. The lodge was beautiful with nice common areas to sit, have a drink and look at all of the many plants growing inside of the lodge. The lodge also had large windows everywhere to look outside to see the spectacular grounds, manicured hedges and beautful flowers. They even had their own private hiking trail in the jungle.
The house is located in a quiet area surrounded by a beautiful garden with many different fruits which our lovely host Diego showed to us when we arrived at the house. Diego was so friendly and welcoming and he gave us many tips for the area. The house is small but super cosy and it has everything that you need, including fridge and a coffee maker. the location is perfect for exploring attractions in the area including Rio Celeste and Sloth tours.
Beautiful huge cacao farm with lots of cacao and banana trees
They don’t speak English (except for 1-2 guys who aren’t always around)—at least some Spanish is a must
They were very welcoming—we got hot chocolate upon arrival
Tasty cacao products to try and for sale as well (try their cacao pulp juice!)
Many dogs on the property but they’re friendly
Big, cozy wooden house with lovely private deck
Free Cacao tour every day
just everything! amazing how lovely the owners Marcy and Brian created a beautiful „boutique“ style hotel. thst prooves again, that „luxury“ is not a question of big money, its of style and taste.
we had the pura vida bungalow and loved the view and the great bathroom. excellent breakfast was served at our terrasse. very kind staff. thanks to all for one of our best stays on our 3 weeks tour in CR.
The different fruit trees, lemongrass, cinnamon tree, cacao, coffee growing on the property! Even though we don’t know Spanish that well, we could still understand the host as he gave us a friendly and patient tour of the little farm. He was so expressive that we could understand about the plants even in Spanish.
The kitchen is extremely clean and well organized, and all the appliances nice.
Arrived late at night and check-in information was left for us in the envelope. The last part of the road to the hotel is gravel, which is not a big deal. Completely comfortable to drive. The bungalow was private with a nice deck. The shower was awesome. Didn’t make it for breakfast so no comment about it. The trail with hanging bridges is a very nice addition. Would stay there again.
Sueno Rio Celeste had everything we were seeking in the rainforest of Costa Rica: the perfect location for visiting one or all of the three magical volcanoes, a restful sleep after a day of adventure and the unexpected visits of frogs, birds, howler monkeys and flock of Toucans. So relaxing, even a Sloth took a nap there!
One of the most friendly hostel stuff we've ever met. They helped us organizing our trips and gave some more advices what to do around Bijagua.
Furthemore, they prepared us a very large and delicious breakfast every morning. There was lots of space in the dorm room to store our luggage. The kitchen was well-equipped.
Lovely garden , comfortable lodge, the walk to the waterfall is a must if you are staying here. Takes 1 hr and you can swim in a lovely spot after about 40 min. Beautiful primal forest on route. Really exceptional trees. We also enjoyed our dinner . Good location for Rio Celeste walk or tubing.
Breakfast on the patio with very nice view. Best coffee I had in Costa Rica. Serene setting. Hosts are very friendly, nice couple, although don't speak much English. Location is very close to Rio Celeste. right by the road. A nice restaurant next door where we had dinner.
Run by a lovely family who have built the cabins and grown the garden from the ground up. We were able to grind our own cacao, take a night tour of the garden for frogs, and explored the area around bijagua, of course including el Rio Celeste.
The location is excellent if you're visiting Rio Celeste. There is a public restaurant right outside the property. WIFI was free. The property is very pretty and well cared for. Parking is good and free. Staff was very nice.
Immediately across from entrance of Rio Celeste waterfall hiking trail at Tenorio Volcano National Park
Short walking trail through banana, sugar cane plus other crop plantation and small animal barn.
It is located at an amazing place, in Costa Rica. Close to the famous river. The hotel in itself has amazing facilities, food and nice staff to help you.
