Neighborhood info
Glenridding is a charming village nestled at the southern tip of Ullswater, the second-largest lake in the Lake District National Park. Surrounded by majestic mountains and with the lake sparkling at its doorstep, Glenridding is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and anyone seeking a picturesque escape. The village is steeped in history, most noted for lead mining, with remnants of its industrial heritage still visible today. However, the village has transformed into a tourism hub, offering a delightful blend of traditional charm and modern amenities.
The village rests in the embrace of Helvellyn, England's third-highest mountain. Keen walkers can embark on challenging treks like the iconic Striding Edge route, while leisurely strolls along the lakeshore are perfect for those seeking a more relaxed pace.
Eating Out:
The nearest pub is the Travellers Rest, which offers food and a good selection of drinks, just a 5-minute walk from the house.
There are also two hotels in the village: The Inn on the Lake Hotel, which offers a Ramblers Bar (Dog-friendly); The Orangery and The Lake View Restaurant, all of which are open to non-residents; and the recently refurbished Ullswater Inn, which offers a family-friendly bar/restaurant.
Fairlight Cafe provides wonderful all-day breakfasts.
Helvellyn Country Kitchen and Fellbites Cafe both offer light bites and fuller lunch dishes, and Helvellyn Country Kitchen hosts the occasional evening pop-up restaurant. Both are great options for a pre- or post-walk feed!
Shops:
Glenridding has two convenience stores; the Glenridding Gallery, and Catsytcam outdoor shop.
For larger shops, the closest supermarkets are in Penrith, a scenic 14-mile drive from the cottage. Home shopping deliveries are available from most major supermarkets.
