High Ground Cottage is a magical place. Set in the Western Lake District's fells there are extraordinary views from every window. Sit on the patio with a glass of wine and look across fields with grazing sheep to Scafell Pike, Bow Fell and Crinkle Crags, or over to the magnificent mountains of Wasdale Head. With a cool vintage vibe, there is a large, welcoming and well equipped farmhouse kitchen, and two super-comfortable and double aspect sitting rooms, one cosy, and one large where everyone can gather to watch the TV (with Sky and Netflix) or play games. A large library of books and games means you'll never be bored. Walk from the door to Stanley Ghyll waterfall, or to Devoke Water, a mysterious mountain lake. The cottage is light and airy and wonderfully quiet and peaceful, with often only skylarks and sheep providing the sound-track. But you are within easy driving of great Lake District attractions, including the little Eskdale steam train to the coast, Coniston Water and Beatrix Potter's Hilltop Farm. You're also within an easy drive of the sea, with the wide sandy beaches of St Bees and Silecroft. Nearby are some really excellent family-friendly inns serving great food and local beers.

Nobody could love this house more than I do, so it's always an absolute delight to welcome others to enjoy this bit of paradise and to get their reactions to this special place. I've lived in the Lake District for 20 years and love to walk in its wildest spaces. This part of the Lakes is spectacular, but much less crowded than the honeypot areas.

There's so much to see and do nearby - including Muncaster Castle with its owl sanctuary, the La'al Ratty steam train to the coast and the Cumbrian Heavy Horses Sanctuary. It's a short drive to stunning Wastwater, surrounded by mountains, with its tiny climbers' church and the Wasdale Head Inn, where you can finish a walk with an excellent lunch in an inn that's hardly changed for a hundred years and more. Coniston Water, Beatrix Potter's Hilltop Farm and the spectacular Hardknott Pass with the ruined Roman Fort.
