I was there for a work trip, that thankfully had enough free time for me to discover the city. Lots of cultural things to do, felt really safe, public transportation is easy, reliable and not expensive. Went to the Concertgebouw, which is one of the concert halls with best acoustics in the world. Also great restaurants at all price points. Amsterdam city center was very crowded. Public transport was very good.The touristic places are almost walking distance from the central train station. I recommend Rijksmuseum for visitors, even if you don't like museums. The villages was very beautiful. You have to see the windmills. I recommend spending more time in the peripheral areas then the city center. Because the city center mostly has tourist traps. I love this city.
I love this city. Magnificent architecture, every photo you take can be used as a desktop wallpaper. Great atmosphere. A wide range of attractions, from cultural to party. You have to keep your eyes peeled so you don't get hit by a bike :). I love coming back here and will definitely come back again.

Compared with the rest of Holland parts of Amsterdam are dirty and 'down at heel'. People were friendly and some sections quite pleasant. The van Gogh museum is excellent and well worth a visit. I preferred places like, Leiden, Gouda and Amersfurt especially.

We used it as a crash pad for an overnight layover in Amsterdam. It was conveniently located to the Tram and Metro in a safe part of town -- about a 10 min taxi ride to the city center and 15 mins to the airport via taxi. The room itself was to the point -- it was small but enough room for the essentials. Comfy bed. My favorite thing was the shower. The shower pressure was amazing! Nothing better than an incredible warm and strong shower after a cold and rainy night. :D

They have a convenient underground parking space (22.5€/night) that is cheaper than leaving the car out on the street (4.50€/h from 9-19).
