Loved it. Not my first visit though. Tip- wear flat sensible foot wear, use the conveniences at the stonehenge centre before you visit, get the free bus if you don't want to walk though fields and woodland, take drinks and take your rubbish home with you.
We stayed in nearby Amesbury, which allowed to arrive at Stonehenge nice and early. Thus avoiding the steadily increasing number of visitors. We also took the opportunity to book the entry tickets online before leaving home.
Stonehenge was amazing! Gutted we couldn't go a bit closer but we obviously understood why? We booked for 10.30 before we arrived it was a great time to book as it wasn't as busy! Went with my 7 year old who absolutely loved it!
Terrible. Waited in lines in rain. 2 windows open for tickets. Long lines to drive in. Took 45 minutes. Lines to get on the bus. Can't get even close to the stones. Kids running all around. No Energy Here. Lines to get back on the bus. Waste of our time. Nothing but a money maker for the operators. Spiritual Connection Gone. Don't waste your time or money.
Contact the organization that runs Stonehenge to sign up for an "inner circle tour." They are available only early in the morning (before opening hours) and after closing hours. They are more expensive but WELL worth it! It was the highlight of our trip!
Best time to visit Stonehenge is around the equinoxes. In the hours around and after sunrise you can visit the monument for free and you are allowed inbetween the stones as long as you respect the monument.
