Nice and quiet town full of history. Centred on a majestic cathedral that's topped by the tallest spire in England, Salisbury makes an appealing Wiltshire base. Its streets form an architectural timeline ranging from medieval walls and half-timbered Tudor town houses to Georgian mansions and Victorian villas. Top attractions include: 1. Salisbury Cathedral. Completed in 1258! 2. Cathedral Close. Separated from the rest of the city by three gateways. 3. Old City Center. Undoubtedly one of the most popular things to do in Salisbury. 4. Salisbury Museum
Salisbury is a lovely town with a beautiful cathedral, walks and other attractions to enjoy. We found a lovely old pub called the New Inn which was very friendly and cosy and enjoyed a meal in the Haunch of Venison another lovely old building.
Salisbury is an excellent place to have a,vacation. Steeped in history. Everyone there is so welcoming. Fantastic bars and restaurants. Wish we had more than 3 nights to discover more. The Cathedral was stunning. St Thomas Church is older. The Haunch of Venison bar has a stunningly gruesome exhibit up the stairs and the best selection of Whisky in England and is also one of the oldest public Houses in Britain. Stonehenge is a few minutes drive away and there are lots of other sites of historical interest that are free to enter. Fantastic place. Will definitely be returning to explore more.
Because holidays had only just opened up again, after lockdown Salisbury was not at its best, lots of shops and restaurants , were closed and empty. It was difficult to visit the Cathedral unless you booked up in time, before your trip. ... very rundown, it felt drab.
I only stayed one evening to meet friends for dinner and weather was atrocious so didn't see as much of the city as I'd have liked. We ate at the Market Inn - staff were great but food just okay really.
Salisbury was a wonderful experience. We visited the cathedral, of course, but also explored the city, surrounding villages and Old Sarum on foot. There are some wonderful walks down the river. The area feels very safe. Lots of pubs and eateries and a good selection of shops, both privately owned and nationals. Also a fab weekly market is held on a Saturday in the city centre market place. Furthermore we found the location to be the perfect base for visiting further afield, such as the south coast and the New Forest
