We all loved how the whole hotel had tatami flooring, it was very soft to walk on. The beds were very comfortable. The hair care products in the showers were very nice as well, I wish I could buy them. The private baths were incredible. They’re first come first serve but I never had to wait long to get into one. Also the staff was always so friendly, helpful, and nice.

Everything in this hotel exceeded our expectations—the staff, the room, the onsen, the dinner and breakfast, the neighborhood, everything. We've been to Japan many times, but Umekoji Potel is number one on our list. Would love to stay again next time.

- The room is a bit more spacious compared to other rooms and the location is perfect for us. It takes less than 5 minutes to Kyoto station and there is a great ramen restaurant just next to the hotel. - Staffs are really friendly. Staffs welcomed us giving towels in front of the gate on snowy days and you can borrow an umbrella if you don't have yours. - Their breakfast and ice cream with mochi were also our favorites. Actually we didn't expect much about their breakfast because we couldn't find any good reviews about it but we were satisfied with the menu they serve. You can try healthy obanzai every morning. They serve western style breakfast as well. - The shower is very spacious, and you can enjoy hot bath after a long day.

Staff was exceptionally attentive but was never over-attentive. They were friendly welcoming and just formal enough. Also, very easy to deal with if there was ever a question about a technicality. The hotel itself was absolutely stunning. I felt like it's own world within Kyoto.
