If you book a return trip with cable-car, make sure you don't miss the last return as they promptly close 17:45 otherwise you'll be stuck and taxi drivers will quote their price and won't use the taxi meter. Unless you like an extremely steep downhill walk of apporx 5Km
Should be visited if you have an interest, or for the pleasant stroll and views. . Nicely laid out, well maintained. Great way to get a handle on Madeira's abundant flora. Coffee shop is adequate, but nothing special. Cable car is a tourist draw, but you can also take a bus at a fraction of the cost. Taxis tout at the cable office. They offer deals..and you can negotiate. Be happy. You're helping the local economy!
absolutely lovely garden with lots of unexpected aspects and extras! Including golden frogs residing happily beside the Buddha..... be aware that there are many levels and if mobility is an issue, use the little truck to return to the top!
Everyone should go at least once. Visit by cable car to enjoy the whole experience. Take lunch and a drink because the cafe in the gardens is quite disappointing but the places to sit and enjoy your lunch are plentiful.
Wonderful - worth every cent of the entrance charge. Also, fantastic collection of really wonderful crystallised minerals from all over the world in the museum. If you manage to walk all the way to the bottom of the garden you can have a free glass of Madeira in the very pleasant cafe, which is well-stocked with a variety of food. Quite a few very discreetly-situated toilets, no signs to them, so hang on the the map they give you at the entrance, toilets are all marked on that. A really enjoyable garden to visit, even for non-gardeners.
