There are somehow literally no museums or libraries open on Mondays or tuesdays, which were the days I was stuck there as a travel layover. So I got stuck literally just sitting in a park in the rain twice for several hours waiting to check in to my hotel, as there was nothing else to do since I didn’t need anything from any stores or restaurants and no other indoor spaces or activities were open within an hour and a half of the city centre by public transit. There are also only two small, museums available even on other days. Inverness might actually have the worst museum ratio Ive encountered in the British isles. Almost everywhere else has some form of local history museum or the like, Inverness has one historic house and one art gallery.Guest review byAmeliaUnited Kingdom - 8.0

A small town but with shops, cafes, cinema and good rail and bus links.speciailses in outdoor activities as UK outdoor centre. The West Highland walking Way from Glasgow ends here and the Great Glen way to Inverness commences. Lots of walks from low level to high mountains with bike trails and plentiful buses to lochs and mountains. The town sits on a loch amidst mountains and the loch is actually a 30 mile inlet of the Atlantic. Thomas Telfords, Caledonian Canal and Neptunes Staircase ( locks) is nearby with boat moorings.Guest review bygeorgeUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Great little town, lots to do, mostly outdoor activities.
Great little town, lots to do, mostly outdoor activities. Funicular railway is fantastic fun and incredible views. Recommend Chargrill as a place to eat, but do book wherever you want to eat as always booked days in advance.Guest review byVivUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Ullapool is just the most scenic, beautiful, place.
Ullapool is just the most scenic, beautiful, place. It's hard to believe you're by the sea and not a large lake, but then you open your curtains in the morning to see a cruise ship coming in, dolphins playing in the bay, it's just a real life postcard. A must!Guest review byKarlUnited Kingdom - 8.0

A great place for boat tours of Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle is located just outside the village. The village itself is very pleasant with a beautiful village green which had a market on it the day we left. The Fiddlers Restaurant on the village green was a great place to eat, drink and watch the world go by. Urquhart Castle is well worth visiting with a great visitor centre and Loch Ness as a splendid backdrop to the stunning castle remains.Guest review byStephenHong Kong - 10.0
The locals are awesome!
The locals are awesome! County show and the place is rammed, the pubs are flat out, drinks are pouring, food keeps coming; but so do the people and our place is about to be overwhelmed. In comes a paramedic from her shift. Off with the jacket, on with an apron and now she's bringing food. Did anyone act tired or troubled? No. Just big smiles and and a 'hey good to see ya' welcome. So that's got to be a one off right? Not here. We're heading for the accommodation and along comes a piper with a small gang and the second best dog in the show who's wearing a rosette to prove it. She's been piping all day and that's hard work. We make a fuss of the dog (no such thing as a second best dog and this one was adorable). "Come on fellas, let me show you the best pub in town." So we're down on the quay in a tiny room and it was jumping. Those pipes were LOUD. And after she stops playing, she's behind the bar. To give the barman a break. Fair play to you Portree, we were impressed!Guest review byDoonerUnited Kingdom - 6.0

There seems to be a lot of closed up cafes /business premises in Kyleakin. Its a sprawling sort of place, maybe we hit it at a bad time. I would not have been too keen to stay there but for our cottage which was fabulous and if we had been staying longer it would have been a lovely house to base oneself in for trips to the rest of the island.Guest review byMaryIreland - 2.0

Passing through, needed a base.
Passing through, needed a base. It’s a bit out of the way, no buses in evening to connect to rest of Skye for returning from activities. The coop nearby makes for good grocery shopping, and the shoreline trail is scenic, for a short walk. Bus stop is a 5 min walk.Guest review byMechthild - 8.0
Cute little town on the south end of Loch Ness.
Cute little town on the south end of Loch Ness. It's quite in the mornings and evenings but gets very busy over day with day tourists by the bus load. Our accommodation was not on the main road, so we hardly noticed the other tourists. Great place for day touring to all four directions as we did.Guest review byTinaUnited Kingdom
