It’s truly heavenly, had the best time. The setting is incredible, uninterrupted views, perfect weather and a lovely mix of private terraces and intimate communal areas. The rooms are architecturaly designed, with quality fixtures and fittings. It’s also a very sensory from the french linens, Belgium pool furniture, Olive scented skincare and the stone flooring on your feet is very grounding. Hosts Olivier + Giannis, go up and beyond to provide personalised service. Olivier was often seen engaging with guests while Giannis is cooking up incredible cuisine from local farms. Everyday the menus changes, but the food is always incredible. They grow their own olives, press their own oil, serve honey from a local family farm, make their own preserves. I stayed only one night at Aquila Atlantis Hotel but I really enjoy it. Very clean room, comfy bed, balcony with a great view over the harbor. The location of the hotel is amazing, in the city center, within walking distance to the the harbor, old town, Central Bus Station and shops. The Archeological Museum is right behind the hotel. Nice pool area especially the one on the top of the building with a view to the Koules Fortress, but I didn't stay long enough to use it.

Extremely well located hotel with a rooftop restaurant offering a varied menu, a magnificent view of the old port and succulent dishes. Rooms with a sea view actually have a view so beautiful that photos can't do it justice. Staff very welcoming, attentive, nice and responsive at all times. Highly recommendable, the hotel is well equipped and lacks nothing, and the staff are just like all the Cretans we met: as friendly as possible.

Beautiful, safe town with many local attractions, beautiful historic churches and Venetian port to explore, Central town bustling with cafes, shops and people walking up and down enjoying the sights and sounds of Heraklion. Superb weather September - October. Good value food. Excellent bus service to take buses to other parts of Crete

Difficult to judge because we came early in the season when there was a cold wind blowing and not all the places were open. However, there didn't seem to be many places to eat [not a problem for us as there was one excellent place, though would be a problem peak season] . There were a number of apparently abandoned and ill-maintained buildings, which made the place appear less attractive.

It was about a ten minutes walk uphill part way to Koutouloufari, loads of restaurants and bars, a fabulous experience. Walk a little further and you come to Piscopiano, also excellent. Walk down the hill and you come to restaurants with Greek dancing and plate smashing, also excellent.

The people are very friendly and most speak or can communicate in several European languages. The city is clean (no litter !!) and the food a and drink is excellent Culturally - this is superb - if ancient history and tall tales of greek mythology are of interest - the museums are well laid out and tourist groups "directed" One significant and pleasant item is that if you are an EU resident and 65 plus you get reduced entry fees into the national museums and attractions ( ID needed)

Stalis is perfect for all ages and families.

Stalis is perfect for all ages and families. If you want partying then Malia is far enough down the road to go to and it doesn't overspill to Stalis. We ate in a different restaurant each night of our 7 night stay. It has something for everyone and great choices of food. We will return next year for sure. It has everything :)

Matala is a colorful, beautiful, and lively little town with a great atmosphere. It is perfect for beach days and a good starting point for day trips to nearby museums and archaeological sites. There is a huge selection of good restaurants. It is a good idea to arrive by car if you want to go on lots of trips and be independent. However, there are also bus connections, e.g. to Heraklion.

Malia is a great place for food, beaches and a good location to explore some of the surrounding areas. The old town provides amazing Cretan restaurants, pretty much all good, and some, like the Avli, Getonia, Sokaki, and Brassierie are excellent. Book a table if there in the busy season. There are local palace ruins which are well worth a visit and easy to get to on the happy train, which is also an experience on its own and does various trips up to the hills as well around town and locally. If there for while definitely book some trips out on a boat, as the sea is just deliciously clean and refreshing, and if feeling adventurous take a boat to Spinalonga and have a wander among the old leper colony. If you can get up in the hills, a visit to Lasithi Plato and make sure you stop off at the restaurant Taksiarhos - where all the food is home made by Joanna, the wife of Taksiarhos who owns this place - it is a complete treat to meet both of them as have a truly authentic Cretan meal and experience. And once the cave is back open (hopefully in 2026) visit Zeus' birth place just a little further up the hill. But of course, the weather is just fab here so do enjoy the sun be it on a beach or by a pool!

I came here for special purpose, to watch basketball U20...

I came here for special purpose, to watch basketball U20 European Championship. For that reason i was traveling by bus to Duo Aorakia and University Sports Center. Don't have so much time to explore the city. When free, enjoy Amoudara beach.

Ease of access to tavernas and beach.

Ease of access to tavernas and beach. Shops offering a much larger choice than expected. Plenty of sunbeds and beach seating. Very friendly taverna staff offering good food. Other places to visit within a short drive. Easy drive from Heraklion. Overall a very relaxed place to stay with everyth8ng needed available.
