Queenstown is great for a couple of nights if you're passing through or showing friends from overseas. As a Kiwi, we do find it expensive, however we know it is geared towards international tourists. They have an excellent Medical Centre!Guest review byVickiNew Zealand - 10.0
I really enjoyed my stay in Christchurch.
I really enjoyed my stay in Christchurch. We stayed in the center of town and found it a very pleasant area to walk around - gardens, cafes, river walk, historical buildings etc. and also took the time to go hiking in the Port Hills (great views) and to visit Willowbank wildlife reserve (a very children friendly place for a stroll - with both native and non-native wildlife on display (the eels definitely enjoy being fed!) Outside the town, I recommend the Pegasus winery for a delightful tasting and picnic lunch. The setting is just beautifulGuest review byIanNew Zealand - 10.0
I adore Lake Tekapo. Views for days. Good hot pools.
I adore Lake Tekapo. Views for days. Good hot pools. Peaceful. A decent serious hike up Mt John to the Observatory Cafe or an easier one up to Cowes Lookout, both with amazing views. I've been going for years - still small but a good supermarket now and more eateries. It is getting busier and pricey, both accommodation and eateries. On the road to Queenstown so an easy stopover. Go with a car if you can - a side trip into Aoraki Mt Cook and walks up the Hooker Valley are worth it.Guest review byHeatherAustralia - 10.0

We were just passing through on this trip, but Dunedin is a great place to visit for an extended stay Harbour and inlet good for paddle boarding, kayaking, sailing. Any scheduled open water swims are great. Mountain biking on the peninsula and behind Logan Park and other trails is good. Good tramping and trail running, Mt Cargill, Swampy etc Weekly Park runs. Marathon one of my NZ favourites, a must do. Summer events regularly held by local triathlon club. I am in my 70s and enjoy Dunedin, younger folks would enjoy it even moreGuest review byShirleyNew Zealand - 10.0

Te Anau is a beautiful town, set on the shores of a lake, with close access to Milford and Doubtful Sounds. The main shopping centre offers lots of different restaurants and take away options. There is also a big supermarket for supplies. There is a lovely gift shop in Te Anau, as well.9Guest review byNarelle PattersonAustralia - 8.0

Nelson has a lot of speciality stores and a lot of food options. The Markets in the weekends are not for those looking for a bargain but do support local and NZ made and although some were costly, there was a lot of selection of goodies. Stoke the Bach Restaurant was staffed with lovely young girls, and the food was excellent and value for money The Arden Monaco where we stayed has limited room facilities and is not staffed outside of working hours, but the beds are comfortable and with very dark woodwork old paintings and very heavy doors, the facility was well equipped with heat pumps and hot water.Guest review byKimNew Zealand - 10.0

Mount Cook Village is a great location if you are planning to do some walks in the area. We did the Hooker Valley Track, Sealy Tarn Track, and the Tasman Glacier View after which we were exhausted and travelling to another location would have been a bit much. Staying at the village was the best decision. At night you can travel slightly out to get the most exceptional views of stars and in the morning you wake up to unbelievably beautiful views of mountains. If you are lucky you might just get some snow.Guest review byWaldoNew Zealand - 10.0

Kaikoura can be overlooked as a destination, but is definitely worth an overnight stay or more, great vibe with restaurants, cafes, shops and first class hotel, Lots of walks, suitable for all levels of fitness from a stroll on the beach to a hike over to South Bay and back. the seal colony, or go whale watching, or just take in the views.Guest review bykarenNew Zealand - 10.0

The main reason for visiting was the hot pools which did not disappoint. The Forrest also was a highlight with plenty of options for walks. We enjoyed the sculpture walk and even found a fairy house trail nearby. Plenty of places to eat.Guest review byDawnNew Zealand
