It's been a few years since our last visit but things are still very much the same, loads of excellent cafe's and some really good pubs, just the place to visit for 2/3 days, unfortunately didn't get round to a canal trip this time, will do this on next visit

A traditional market town with lots to see and do.

A traditional market town with lots to see and do. The high street is a refreshing array of local independent shops & services. A visitor is spoilt for choice with cafes, coffee shops and pubs. The area around the canal basin is a hive of activity with market stalls the day of our visit. The splendid museum has won awards for its refurbishment and is worthy of a visit. We used local transport to get around and found buses and trains easy to navigate. Local passengers were quick to help out with any queries too!

We ate out most evenings in Skipton and there was a good selection and variety of restaurants and pubs available. There is a large Morrisons supermarket within walking distance of the town centre to stock up on weekly provisions. The canal boat trips were a delight so we did two! In summary Skipton is a lovely base to explore the surrounding area - Malham Cove is absolutely spectacular.

I loved the vibe of a market town!

I loved the vibe of a market town! A short trip on a canal boat was peaceful heaven! The food in the Woolly Sheep Inn was exeptional, however I was never disappointed in food or drink wherever I was in Skipton!! Even the little shop at the station - they made me up a delicious roll for my journey and a great coffee to go!!The people give you a typical Yorkshire warm welcome! The Church, the Castle and the Castle Woods were all worth a visit!! Lots to do in a very interesting part of Yorkshire!! I just loved being back there again - its been too long!!

Room was spacious, bed was very comfy and the little touch of soap and body wash was was lovely. Tea and coffee making facilities were provided and replenished daily. Lovely soft fluffy towels and sparkling white bed linen. Breakfast choices were really good and the full English section had a good selection to help yourself. Table service of toast and tea was excellent. Location of hotel was good with beautiful scenery and the town of Skipton was easily reached by walking along the towpath.

The Railway was a great pub-hotel to stay in. A simple single room to be fair, but perfectly nice for the price, which was less than the Travelodge. WiFi, TV, coffee/tea, biscuits provided and was pleased there was a hairdryer too! And a fan - was a hot night! Nice clean ensuite. The cooked breakfast was superb- really nice to have before a day selling maps at Art in The Pen.
