The dinner buffet is extensive. Although it caters to the mass (meaning it'll be crowded), the volume also means offering wider variety of food options as well as beverage and alcohol. Do not expect fine dining quality, but for the price you pay for half-board, it is still a good stay. And highly recommend taking half-board, as the eateries around the area aren't that many and do close relatively early. Save your time searching for dinner locations, utilize that time for hotel's onsen instead.
In addition, have fun picking up your favored design and color of Yukata and belt, including amenities.

The location is fantastic. The availability of horseback riding throughout the valley was the primary reason for our selection of El Patio. The horseback riding experience was terrific. The room was large, modern, clean and very comfortable and with a nice "Western" theme style. The personnel were all very friendly and helpful.

My parents came to visit me from America. This was by far the best accommodation they booked for the trip. It was incredibly roomy and the beds were very comfortable (according to them). I highly recommend this house to anyone looking for accommodation in Aso. I will say that I don't know how convenient it is to get to by public transportation because I drove my car. You have a beautiful view of the mountains from the porch/front door. It's very quiet in the area. The house was incredibly clean and well-stocked (plenty of soap/shampoo, tea, and coffee).
Great views. Great trip. Only disappointment is the blue "lake" in Nakadake Crater. All the pictures show the "lake" while to my understanding it was destroyed during the 2016 earthquake. It was what drawn my attention to this location to begin with, so it was disappointing not seeing it. All these pictures should be replaced with what currently is there, not what used to be there.

Unfortunately access to the crater is still prohibited due to the risk of toxic gases, but the surrounding area is impressive. For those keen on a hard nature walk you can walk up the steep trail of the neighbouring peak and look down into the crater from there. Allow a good half a day or more to do this!
The House was very clean and well kept. The size was suitable for a family of five. I love that there is a washing machine that you can actually use. The compact kitchen and dining area was perfect. The house Itself is located right next to a school so in the morning, there might be some noise but we have kids so we don't mind. Location was great for us as we rented a car so it is very convenient to get to stores and restaurants around there within minutes. We will definitely return if we visit Aso again.
As an older couple cycling through Japan, this hostel had everything we needed. An excellent self-catering kitchen and a private room with a Queen bed delivered us comfort for our visit to Mt Aso. The staff were particularly helpful and spoke good English which was an advantage to us. Less expensive than a hotel but with more amenity for us with the opportunity to converse with fellow travellers, this was the perfect place for us to stay.
A little bit difficult to review this one, as it was quite expensive and this creates expectations. We had an apartment style room with two levels and a bath inside and outside, and it was very pretty, spacious, and comfortable. The food was excellent and creative. Location is good for an excursion to the Aso volcanoes.
The place was very welcome and felt like staying at a Japanese friend's house. We had a really good stay. The host was super supportive. My friend forgot her clothes at the house, but the host helped sending them back to Thailand. We do appreciate her efforts. Thank you for everything. I really recommend this place.
A quaint and beautiful onsen ryokan located in Aso. The room we got on the second floor was large and comfortable. The ryokan has a public onsen and 5 private onsens (reserved for guests after 9pm) located in an adjoning building. Dinner was amazing as expected from a ryokan. We used the private onsen twice!
Good location for exploring the Aso area if you have a car
Dinner and breakfast were both delicious
Homemade pickles were amazing
Staff were kind
Private bath and public bath were both quite comfortable and a good temperature.
Our first time staying at a traditional Japanese inn. My daughter had done the research and chosen the spot. The location was amazing and I would definitely stay there again. The breakfast and onsen were fantastic!
our 3 pax room is big & clean, onsen & dinning areas are large. The hotel also provides shuttle to bring guests to & from train stations. and the breakfast & dinner spread are of western & Japanese buffet styles.
We had a very pleasant stay in Asogen! The staff was lovely and the food outstanding. Also the public bath was a treat after a day hiking in the rain. It's a basic accommodation with everything you need.
We liked the crab buffet and drinks. The hotel is large and many accessories. Though we can't see Aso mountaun this time due to Typhoon, the view from restaurant and room would be beautiful.
Everyone was happy with the hotel. Room size was perfect for our group.,...the onsen...the food. Everything was good. Lobby souvenir shop had quite a good selection of clothes...
The staff is enthusiastic and kind. Although the bathroom and toilet are shared, they provide a private room. For such a price in the area, I think everything's reasonable.
Incredible stay into the Aso Park thanks to this hotel. Very helpful to find & call a restaurant at night. Great staff & large traditional Japanese breakfast
