Stunning Split stands proudly on the eastern shores of the Adriatic Sea, and due to its great climate is called the Mediterranean Flower. It features eclectic architecture, spectacular views and delicious cuisine.
Split is centered around the ancient Roman Palace of the Emperor Diocletian, a magnificent building constructed at the beginning of the 4th century AD and featuring limestone and marble towers, columns and courtyards. It lies in a bay decorated with white sails of yachts, as sailing is definitely Split’s big thing!

The Mediterranean atmosphere, historical sites, and lively outdoor culture are what brought us to Split. The Old Town is a maze of stone-paved streets, historic buildings, and squares, set against the sparkling Adriatic Sea. The Riva, the city’s famous waterfront promenade, is a focal point for social life, lined with palm trees, cafes, and restaurants, where every evening residents and visitors enjoy the waterfront and scenic views. The city has a rich, layered history: from its Byzantine and Venetian eras to Austro-Hungarian rule and its pivotal role in Yugoslavia and modern Croatia. Today, Split is known for its beautiful beaches, vibrant cultural events, and immersive historical ambiance—making it both a gateway to the Adriatic islands and a unique blend of antiquity and modern lifestyle. Split is a fabulous place to visit for couples and families alike. The little sandy Beach at Bacavec is perfect for safe swimming, sunbathing and sandcastle making! The old town has dozens of little streets full of cafés restaurants, shops, bars and ice cream parlours. There is a wealth of historic sites to see, not to mention the super yachts in the marina. The majority of restaurants where we dined were very reasonably priced, as were the Ubers that we used several times. I think split is a very beautiful city!
I think split is a very beautiful city! Walking around split oldtown and along the riva is such a special feeling. I’ve been there in December and over new years and it was a lovely flair and there were lots of music and delicious things to eat and I really enjoyed advent in split. Also the weather in December was perfect. Blue sky,sun and 20 degrees. Then I was back in summer and most bakery turned into ice cream stores and the weather was perfect again and I did some nice boat trips and visited some beautiful places outside split like the eye of Croatia or the KRKA Nationalpark.Guest review byjaninaGermany - 6.0
Overall great city but not the great culture.
Overall great city but not the great culture. People are very very rude towards tourist and needless to say it's very expensive, party city. With that, even for the party scene there are plenty of other options across the globe. A safe and quiet town, with pubs, bars, and clubs where you can party until late at night. The beaches visited (about 8 in 7 dd.) met the standards of beauty and cleanliness of the water, and they were all well-ventilated, making them ideal for sunbathing. There are places to visit and be impressed by and they can also be reached at a not too excessive price. The numerous restaurants along the Riva promenade offer a seafront culinary experience that both delights the palate and relaxes the mind. Places I recommend dancing for people aged 25 to 35 are: Emperor's Club 305 A.D. (Trogirska ul. 7; entrance: €10-20) and X Night Club (Sinjska ul. 5; entrance: free). Must-try restaurant: Pizzeria Sette Sorelle (Trg Franje Tuđmana 3). Excursions to do: Brač Island to reach the famous Golden Horn, a symbol of the Adriatic; Marjan Forest Park; Blue Cave; Krka Waterfalls. Loved Split...So vibrant and the people so friendly. our accommodation was right in the centre of old town and a short walk to everything. we ate at restaurants along the front overlooking the water and they are all lovely, serving both international and local cuisine, all from fresh ingredients.
