Beautiful place for family and friends or individuals. Not like Queenstown which gave me a city feeling and the traffic was like Auckland CBD. For people who look for nature, not shopping and plenty of eating, I would recommend Tekapo, but not Queenstown. I like the Chinese restaurant there and the Lakeview. Tekapo is a beautiful town on the edge of the lake and mountains. We went in winter and the view of the lake with snow on the surrounding mountains was lovely. I always come back to Lake Tekapo for the breathtaking views of the lake and its turquoise waters. Highly recommend for first time travellers. TIP for first timers: Start your trip from Christchurch and drive down south to see Lake Tekapo and Lake Pukaki and if you have more time drive further to see Lake Ōhau. This is the real NZ with its beautiful lakes! The view from our bedroom and living room in our bed or sofa is like a painting or a picture- so so beautiful. We can find the peace in such a quiet environment. It is good for those self driving people. Not worries for backpackers, the front desk staff is fantastic and helpful. They help to fetch our big luggages from the office to the accommodation.
