Clearly Dornoch is a mecca for golfers but it also has a wonderful beach, lovely shops and good restaurants. There are plenty of local walks and and Scottish heritage to explore. Dornoch is a lovely town with good mix of shops and eating places, great wee museum too with a tonne of history to marvel at. Beaches are stunning. You can walk for miles and only pass a few folk even during the peak summer period. We loved the setting by the sea and were blessed with perfect weather. The cathedral is directly opposite the Dornoch Castle Hotel and you are free to spend as long as you like in its peaceful tranquillity with no fee to enter, unlike many commercialised cathedrals in England. It is quite a short drive up the coast to the spectacular Dunrobin Castle with its formal gardens and dramatic setting.
