Typically Swiss, Interlaken has an incredible location: on the Aar River linking nearby Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, and in the shade of magnificent Alpine mountains including famous Jungfrau. The wonderful views are seen flying into Interlaken Airport.
The lakes are great spots for sailing, swimming or simply having a picnic along the peaceful shores. The area also has its fair share of high-adrenaline pursuits including bungee jumping, paragliding and river rafting.
In winter it’s all about the Interlaken skiing and snowboarding, with options including the fabulous Jungfrau Winter Sport Region and family-friendly areas with easy slopes. The Jungfrau-Aletsch-Bietschhorn glacier is UNESCO World Heritage-listed, and the Jungfraujoch mountain railway takes you to the Top of Europe, the highest railway station in Europe. For a break from skiing, Europe’s longest toboggan run is a thrill a minute. Après-ski ranges from bars and discos to cosy restaurants serving specialities like fondue and raclette.
The town offers great views of the snowy peak of Jungfrau, best seen from Höheweg which also has a Japanese garden and lots of shops selling all things Swiss. It’s best city of Switzerland I visited. View of city is awesome, nice and clean, public transport is very good. If you have Swiss travel pass you can enjoy trains, ferries and buses free. And lots of other places have discounts on tickets upto 50%. If you’re looking for Swiss travel definitely go to Interlaken at least 2 days minimum, lots of places (Grindelwald ) around there that have amazing views. Small town but better. I wish I can stay one more day.
I wish I can stay one more day. We were there two days and booked the paragliding twice and was cancelled due to raining. But the town has so much to see and we can only hit a small part of it. It is the capital of adventure in Alps.
It is the capital of adventure in Alps. There are so many different activities that can be done in and around Interlaken. The down side is the town full of tourists in summer months and the price for food and hotel is at premium. It is not worth staying in Interlaken to visit Jungfrau. It is better to stay at Grindelwald with great mountain views. Just a day visit to Interlaken is all that is required. Try to spend more time in Lucern, Bern, Zurich while visiting Switzerland.Guest review byShaila - 10.0

I did not find anything interesting in Interlaken, however, the location was good from the point of view of visiting Lauterbrunnen for the Staubbach and Trummelbach falls, Jungfraufraujoch top of the world activities and Grindelwald for hike to First, Cliff walk and lake Bussalp. I found the accomodation a little expensive. The local travel was free and the Interlaken Ost and Interlaken West provided a good connectivity to long distance and short distance regional travel. It’s a beautiful place, but when you go to eat in restaurants they charge you for tap water. When we ran out of water it was very difficult to carry to find as water fountains are far away from each other and restaurants are very very stingy to give water. The main 'junction' station is Interlaken Ost for trains to the Jungfrau region etc. Friendly reception. Got given local discount card which offers free local buses etc. Reception helpful in loaning me a plug adaptor as many older hotels in Switzerland still use different ones to most of Europe.
