Middlesbrough is very much a decaying post industrial town.
Middlesbrough is very much a decaying post industrial town. Initially I thought it would make a good setting for a dystopian film about post apocalyptic Britain, with its many closed and boarded up shops - big and small. But I grew to like the place. It has excellent public transport links to the beautiful surrounding countryside, and the stunning north Yorkshire coast. It's an honest town, very multicultural, and everyone I met was friendly and helpful.Guest review byPhilipUnited Kingdom - 10.0

I was pleasantly surprised by the genuine warmth of the Darlington people. The food at local restaurants was very good as was the atmosphere in the local pubs. I was impressed with Darlington's railway heritage and the pride and esteem in which it is held by many of the visitors to the museum.Guest review byTinklerUnited Kingdom - 4.0

If it hadn’t been for a family wedding, I would not have chosen to visit Hartlepool. The town felt very run down, with many shops closed and little to do. It came across as a sad and struggling area. Unfortunately, we also experienced a couple of racial incidents, which made us feel uncomfortable. If you are a person of colour, this may not feel like a welcoming or friendly place to visit.Guest review bySultanaUnited Kingdom - 8.0

If you like a drinks bargain in a welcoming friendly pub visit the Pig and Whistle, don't be put off by the looks. They couldn't be more friendly if they tried. They don't serve food or have live music but have a great Juke box and snacks.Guest review byMarkUnited Kingdom - 6.0

The town is not too busy although a bit run down especially near the accommodation. The traffic was not bad at all times for a central area. Did not visit much of the main town area except nearby seaside resorts.Guest review byJoashUnited Kingdom - 6.0

Runswick Bay where we stayed was lovely but we didn’t like Saltburn. It was very tacky - there seemed to be bus loads of loud obnoxious people everywhere. We ate at a lovely seafood restaurant and that redeemed it slightly! A shame as the scenery is stunning, we went back for breakfast at the spa hotel which was better as up the hill from the beach and pier so we enjoyed the views without the noise.Guest review byHeidiUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Guisborough is a nice place, its a busy market town close to the east coast. Lovely area for a visit, lots of shops and things in the area. If staying in the area, it can be noisy at night with traffic, so stay on outskirts if traffic noise bothers you.Guest review byKayUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Yarm is a beautiful town and really hasn’t changed much since our last visit nearly 50 years ago. Having grown up in Eaglescliffe we wanted to take a trip down memory lane. Even our trip to Strickland and Holt on the High Street didn’t disappoint!Guest review bySaraUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Love Staithes.
Love Staithes. Cute little village, couple of nice pubs, shops and a beach. Perfect for my young family having a short break. Not easy to get around if you have accessibility issues though, be prepared for the steep hill to get down into the village. Been visiting for a few years now and will continue to do so 😊Guest review bySarahUnited Kingdom - 8.0
