Easy walk to the lovely town of Aalsmeer that has several restaurants, including an inexpensive Italian place that had the best Italian food we’ve had outside of Italy. Although it’s in the terminal, it’s impossible to find and the airport staff don’t even know how to arrive. This makes the location a moot point as it took 1.5 hours to get there after exiting my flight.

Between Dutch Windmills and Flowers

The gateway to the Netherlands, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is one of the world’s busiest international passenger terminals and home to the Dutch national airline, KLM.

The airport sits on reclaimed land around 10 feet below sea level on the site of a former huge inland lake. In fact, the name Schiphol may mean "ship grave," a reference to the ships that would periodically be sunk in its turbulent waters.

A train station serving many Dutch cities lies beneath the terminal building which houses a mini Rijksmuseum exhibition, reference library with multilingual books, and plenty of shops selling the ubiquitous clogs, tulip bulbs and cheese.

Booking.com’s range of Schiphol Airport hotels includes several on-site hotels. Others are in neighboring Hoofddorp, a town also within the area of the former lake, whose De Eersteling windmill overlooks a dike encircling a former fort.

Another windmill, the Molen van Sloten, is across a canal from Badhoevedorp on the airport’s north side. To the east, the huge Amsterdamse Bos forest is a haven of peace and tranquillity (apart from the occasional aircraft!) and borders Amstelveen. To the southwest is Aalsmeer, a town set on the huge Westeinderplassen Lake, and whose massive flower auction house receives daily consignments from all over the world.

    If you are passing through Schiphol, it's usually good.

    If you are passing through Schiphol, it's usually good. They have a speed track for those making connections with a short layover at passport control. However, in the summer, they get lots of thunderstorms, and so flights don't often arrive on time. If you get stuck there, the Dutch are not particularly warm or helpful, so expect a calloused response to any requests for help, particularly from KLM and the border agents at passport control who seem suspicious about why you are in Amsterdam in the first place.

    In spite of the convenient location, and decent ammenities, there were issues with early gaining access to our room, no hot water on the bathroom sink, on both our visits, logging onto the wi-fi network, and confusion among assigned accommodation.

    I had a long overnight layover in Amsterdam, arriving after midnight, so I chose the Mercure for its convenient location in the terminal. It was a very easy check in experience and a very comfortable room, perfect for my needs.

    Probably one of the best airport in my opinion.

    Probably one of the best airport in my opinion. Not big nor too small just the right size. Schipol Airport connects you to get to Amstredam Central by Train or Bus. Trains are extremely convenient and it's located inside the airport terminal. You don't have to leave the airport for anything. Lots and lots of good restaurant at budget price. I love coffee and generally the airport pricing are exhorbitant, in Schipol Airport the price was exactly the same as else where. Stay close to the airport

    On the plus side the train station is under the airport with...

    On the plus side the train station is under the airport with a lot of sprinter trains into Amsterdam. On the negative side the signage is confusing in the airport and the staff in information were busy talking to each other rather than confused tourists.

    Very good price for Amsterdam, it’s not going to be the most luxury hotel for the price but the room was clean and comfortable, and parking is included. I’ve seen people in the reviews complaining about the distance from Amsterdam centre, but it’s actually not that bad - one bus for 15 minutes and a connecting bus for 20 minutes, both buses running regularly, or the 15 minutes train from Schiphol airport. If you can’t pay central prices, it’s worth the minor hassle.

    The hotel was convenient to the airport, as it was within a few minutes walk of the terminals and the train station. The room was cleverly designed to make good use of the space, and most of the features (curtains, lights, sounds) were controlled by a tablet. The bed was comfortable and large, and although the rest of the room was small, it had everything we needed.

    This is a great hotel if you have an early flight from the Schiphol airport and you'd like to sleep closeby. The hotel is easily accessible by the shuttle from the airport, and the same shuttle also takes you back tot he airport.
