Myvatn Nature Baths
Just an hour’s drive east of Akureyri, this wetland reserve is a hotbed of volcanic activity, from bubbling mud pits to lava formations. Myvatn Lake’s waters are a haven for wading birds, with more duck species found here than anywhere else on Earth. The lake’s name translates as ‘midge water’, and for good reason – be sure to bring insect repellent if you visit!

We went to several nature baths and this was the worse.
We went to several nature baths and this was the worse. It is a very old and dated facility (they are in the process of building a new facility) and it smelled horribly of sulphur. We stayed for 30 min total.Guest review byCrossCanada

Excellent breakfast and they went out of their way to provide gluten-free items for one of us who has celiac. Good location. The breakfast is wonderful. The milk is fresh and organic, coming from their own cows. The eggs are from the raised chickens. They have home made ice cream made from the fresh cows milking. I had opportunity to watch the cows’ milking process. We stayed for 3 nights to visit all the attractions nearby. We had the Myvatn nature baths after long days’ volcano hike not far away. As the hotel was over booked, and we were traveling with kids they helped us by arranging one extra bed in the room for free.
