Himeji is obviously very famous for its castle, but other than that lacks many things to do. I found my time there to be rather boring, and we often struggled to find activities to fill our nights with. We used Himeji as a central location to take day trips from - since we booked during Golden Week, hotel prices in more ideal areas, such as Kobe, were heavily inflated and unreasonable.Guest review byJacob - 8.0
The Himeji locals are friendly.
The Himeji locals are friendly. I also like the town as it has a little of an un-hurried atmosphere. Finding things to do and places to see it facilitated by a Tourist Information centre, where I have been most surprised by the things on offer throughout the year. (I wish I was there now for the Himeji Yukata festival) If you haven't already, please visit Himeji Castle and take a guided tour. The guides in my experience are full of information about e castle, its history and the history of its occupants. Himeji is a nice sized city, with a beautiful castle and associated gardens. We were lucky to be there during the annual festival, which was held over a weekend. I only had a few hours, but wanted to see the castle, which I did both in sunlight and after dark. It is stunning (I didn't go inside) and the moat contains enormous black carp I was alone, and on my way to visit friends the next day, but I would say the night scene looked good - I would have liked to be with others to go out and explore. We find that they are very clean, comfortable and offer very good value for money.The one in Himeji was no exception. It is a five minute walk from the station and walkable to the Castle. Alternatively, you can take a short bus trip from the station to the castle. They young staff are very helpful and several spoke some English.
