Kobe is an underrated city in the Kansai region. Being less crowded than Osaka, it makes it one of the best place to stay in Kansai area. Rooms are generally cheaper as well, with great sightseeing around. The only thing is that the city sleeps earlier than Osaka, shops close by 8pm.
Kobe is a really fun city, and compared with Tokyo, it's extremely walkable. Everything is centralized around the Sannomiya area/station, so it's easy to see all the sights and sounds. Even walking to 異人館 from Sannomiya isn't too difficult, and it's easy to get to the harbor as well. The thing that impressed me the most was how many mom-and-pop restaurants there were. While each major station in Tokyo has the usual Mcdonalds, Yoshinoya, Matsuya, etc, chain restaurants were few and far between, making it easy to eat local and unique food. The American house and the German house (sorry, I forgot the name) were worth the price of entry, but the "Scale House" (うろこの家) was under construction so you only got to see half of the house at nearly the full cost. I'd definitely skip it. The Herb Garden (ハーブ園) was also worth the visit. I went in January and while there weren't that many plants in bloom, it was still a nice walk from the top to the bottom. I'd love to visit the place in spring or summer!
Kobe is a city located in the Hyogo prefecture of Japan, and it is surrounded by many popular destinations that are worth visiting. Some of the most notable include: Mount Rokko: This mountain range offers a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, sightseeing and skiing during winter. From the top of the mountain, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the city and the sea. Nada Sake District: This area is known for its sake breweries, where you can learn about the traditional brewing process and taste different types of sake. Kitano-cho: This is a charming foreign settlement that offers a glimpse of the city's history as an international port. The settlement is home to a number of foreign consulates and houses, many of which have been converted into museums and art galleries. Arima Onsen: This is a traditional hot spring town located just north of Kobe, which is known for its unique iron-rich waters that are said to have therapeutic properties. Himeji Castle: It is one of the most famous and well-preserved castles in Japan, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and considered one of the “Three Famous Castles” in Japan. Akashi Kaikyo Bridge: it is one of the longest suspension bridges in the world, connecting the city of Kobe to Awaji Island. It offers an incredible view of the surrounding area, including the Seto Inland Sea. These are just a few examples of the many popular destinations located around Kobe. With its rich history, natural beauty, and cultural attractions, it is an excellent place to visit for any traveler interested in Japanese culture and history.
My favorite city. It is not country but not too crowded like Tokyo. Kobe is the gourmet city and so many delicious food all over. There is the Rokko mountain and ocean in the city. You can access both places very easy and quick. Both has the beautiful view. So many things to do in Kobe.
I recommend Arima Onsen. It is a charming, mountain hot spring town. It is easily accessible from downtown Kobe; in fact, one could hike there (over the mountains), which would be the best way to get there, provided one has time. Above all, the washoku (Japanese cuisine) there is simple, but wonderful. You can get local craft beer on tap as well. Finally, head for the Tokyu Resort Hotel and then start up the mountain. Within one to one and a half hours, you will be on top of Mt. Rokko. The views in all directions are superb.
Arima Onsen is a charming little hot spring town full of narrow alleyways and winding streets. This unit was located on just such a street; you will love it, and feel that you are part of the town, not a tourist isolated in an antiseptic hotel . Cafe de Beau was wonderful as well. Try a locally brewed beer in one of the cafes, too Also, try to go during November, when the leaves are changing color... and bring hiking shoes. (Walk to the top of Mt. Rokko from Arima Onsen; it is a fabulous hike.)
The hotel is very near to restaurants and shop. It is also near train station and bus stop that is very much convenient in visiting kobe’s tourist spot and other beautiful and a must see places like kobe port tower, mosaic, china town, sannomiya etc... the facility is quite new and clean. Comfortable bed and a very good air-condition system specially this summer season. It also have a very good water flow. We really enjoy the bath and shower. The breakfast is good too. Over all we have a very good stay.
Very friendly and helpful staff, both at reception and in the breakfast area. The bed was very comfortable. The room was quiet. Bathroom amenities were good. I appreciated the humidifier. And not having carpet was great for a change. The breakfast was pretty good for a Japanese hotel. Very tasty. Good selection. Asking every day whether I needed the room cleaned or towels changed was very eco. Makes sense to me. The ‘English’ touch to the hotel was homely.
The breakfast was delicious and I had the Japanese style while my wife had another option. body were delicious. since we stayed in October the pool was closed but I can tell year around it's a nice place indoors and out.
Excellent Japanese breakfast. Conveniently located a short walk from Sannomiya Station. Very helpful staff, who kindly posted to our next hotel an item which we had left behind.
My wife thought their breakfast buffet was the best breakfasts of the entire trip we took to Japan. Staff was very helpful and Friendly.
Big size room ( more than avg in Japan) Toner, face oil, lotion, face wash, shampoo, conditioner 1 min from station Very warm staff
The room was larger than other Japanese hotels I've stayed at in the same price range. It was very clean and cozy.
great onsen hotel located central Kobe, right near Chinatown!
