I would say maybe about half of the reception staff spoke decent English, which was a huge help. Was on struggle street not knowing much Chinese in Shanghai, but the concierge helped me order an AI translation device online. I paid him cash, and the device was delivered to my room in about an hour I believe. Remarkable delivery time, exceptional service. The Chinese made translation device was a godsend - truly impressive.

Excellent location - walking distance to major shopping streets, People’s Square, and Metro station. Tons of good restaurants and cafes nearby as well. The staff are all very friendly, warm, and attentive. Hotel itself is gorgeous, smells heavenly, and exceptionally clean. We stayed in a 2-bedroom unit with a kitchen and separate living area so it was very spacious for our family of 4. The washer and dryer were an added bonus as we got to do a bit of laundry during our stay.

FAQs about hotels in Shanghai

A Beacon of Modern China

A beacon of 21st-century China, Shanghai is modernizing at an electrifying rate. Nowhere is this more evident than the skyscraper-punctuated Pudong commercial district. The most distinct - the Oriental Pearl Tower - has a ball at the top and bottom and has fabulous city views. A number of towers also twist as they go up – a feat of contemporary engineering.

This side of the city also houses Shanghai Pudong International Airport, while Shanghai Hongqiao Airport is over the Huangpu River in the Puxi district. An area of older and less dominating buildings, Puxi features the elegant Bund area whose varied architecture includes a surprising array of Art Deco.

With a choice of shopping centers and small shops beneath brightly lit neon signs just like Chinatowns across the world, Shanghai shopping is fantastic.

Other must-see Shanghai attractions include the wonderful Shanghai Museum and the Jade Buddha Temple. For a break from the hustle and bustle, head to the Yuyuan Gardens, the beach or peaceful Zhujiajiao Water Town in the west.

Whether you choose one of the Shanghai hotels, apartments or hostels, take time to go to a tea house, a Chinese institution. Also worth sampling are Shanghai hairy crab, steamed dumplings and the freshwater fish so popular with locals.

It was only a quick 3 day look, not nearly long enough, but something very different. We went when it was Chinese school holidays,i had no idea, millions of people everywhere, traffic a night mare, they has police everywhere to control the traffic and the public, and so hot 36c on one day and 35c on other when we left it was 37c.Most of the swimming pools are inside hotels not outside, which i did find a bit strange considering how hot it gets there.Taxis took us to the wrong locations a few times, not many speak English there. We did not travel great distances there because of the time schedule we had, hence really needed more time, there was so much i wanted to see.You need to have cash on you for the taxis and of course some will rip you of.In conclusion i would say it was quite good, but not the best holiday Ive had,we do lean more to beach type holidays, one thing i would say take plenty of money with you,its quite pricey

I caught 10 taxis whilst in Shanghai.

I caught 10 taxis whilst in Shanghai. The first one coming from Longyang Rd station to the hotel overcharged me by 280yuan because I didn't know where I was going and was taken on a very long unneccessary drive. He charged me 330 yuan. I now know I should have paid between 30 -50 yuan depending on traffic. The same thing happened in 3 other (metered) taxis but i caught them out and refused to pay. I caught retailers trying to put more charge in their credit card devices than I was supposed to be paying. I caught them and refused to pay. I got short changed when paying cash. All of this leaves a very bad taste in my mouth and leaves me with a feeling that Shanghai people are dishonest. I also noticed a lack of signage that had another language as well as chinese on them. If you want tourists to come back, you should cater for them and not just view them as people to take money from. I have been to Beijing 3 times and had a great time every visit. I've been to Hong Kong about 16 times and had great times. I don't want to return to Shanghai and will not recommend it to others

Beautiful, clean, modern, innovative with insane views - a city that stretches far beyond what we’re used to in New York or Los Angeles in the US. The people were friendly and the food was incredible. An endless amount of luxury shopping and malls. The only downside was the humidity and the heat in August.

Not sure what I expected from Shanghai - it is large and sprawling and has something for everyone. Stylish cafes, restaurants, lanes and curiosity shops. Large shopping avenues and the Bund was crazily busy for sunset. The Tanzifeng lanes area was great for small shops and cocktails. The Temples were intact and well worth visiting. The ultra modern shopping malls with pure luxury...the didi taxi service. We discovered some beautiful gardens in the city, great for a rest during the midday heat!

The breakfast was good. The bed was comfortable and the room was a good size with a nice view. Some of the staff were very good. It is well located in the People's Park. My rating on the hotel is based upon the price for the room which is high for Shanghai and the fact this is meant to be a 5 star hotel. I also did not give it a 1 because the worst problem we encountered was partly resolved by a Manager and some of the other staff I dealt with were lovely. Sadly the best part of our stay was leaving this hotel.

The location is great. The hotel is next to a subway hub served by 4 lines, which go to to key locations like Lujiazui, Nanjing Road, People's Square, Xujiahui, Quiantan, and Pudong & Hongqiao Airports. There are many restaurants right outside the hotel. Shanghai has an extensive subway system. If you intend to rely on the subway, this hotel is a good option. Our room has a great view of Shanghai's skyscrapers.

I had 12 hours transit in Shanghai and I’ve chosen Deco hotel because the shuttle and check-in services are 24 hrs. Instructions to find the airport shuttle bus are very clear, the shuttle bus was on time and the hotel staff was very cooperative and provided me with late checkout. Breakfast was nice and the room is clean and very comfortable.
