I booked the George Inn at 7pm on a Sunday evening of a BH weekend after getting rained off from my camping. The place was still busy with the Sunday lunch crowd and clearly the host couple had been flat out busy all day. Nevertheless they were both absolutely charming and quickly showed me a lovely comfortable room and got me a meal and a pint followed by some excellent home made Victoria sponge. Before long I was co-opted onto one of the pub quizz teams and had a great evening in front of the toasty open fire with my new friends. Lovely people who run a great little Inn.

Our trip was specifically to visit the rural levels and also to catch up on a friend in the area. We did not visit Wells on this occasion so can't comment specifically. However if you want to be well situated to explore the area Wookey Hole and its hotel is a good place to be. Locally there is the Ebor Gorge within walking distance and road access to most of the area is accessible although you must be happy driving on some narrow roads. Hotel is definitely not luxury but is clean and convenient with excellent staff. Good value for money if looking for convenience rather than luxury.

We visited Wells Cathedral, which is an absolutely stunning place, the staff are very welcoming and the donation system is very reasonable. The only thing I would say is if there is anyone with Auditory sensory issue, check if they are cleaning the organ before going in as this did dampen my experience not knowing at the time. The library is up a set of s prial stairs so not accessible, however if you have someone willing to run up and take some pictures, it does look like a wonderful place.

Wells is a beautiful, small city, dominated by it's immense Cathedral. We very much enjoyed both. We spent time within the Cathedral, enjoying it's beauty, a service, and a concert. The shops and restaurants were varied and good, and the market exceptional. The Bishop Palace Gardens were our final treat with it's restful water gardens. All in all an ideal short holiday destination.
This property is fabulous! The decor is lovely, the garden is gorgeous, the beds are so comfortable, and the shower has great water pressure. I kind of want to move in.
Do yourself a favor and make the walk into Wells across the Palace Fields. The approach to the city is fantastic and you can also see the Glastonbury Tor. This property was perfect in every way. I would love to come back for another visit. Thanks for a wonderful stay!
The location was excellent. I came by public transport, 376 from Bristol and the bus stop was just around the corner from the hotel. Wells is such a small city everything is within walking distance as is the cathedral, Bishop's Palace, pubs and restaurants from the hotel. My room was large and very comfortable and quiet. Superb breakfast with a great choice of cooked items
Sarah, hotel owner was fantastic, couldn't do enough for us. Even made her washing machine available to us.
Terrific room, tastefully decorated with extras. Great bathroom, clean and functional.
All staff in hotel were welcoming. Parking was an issue but made easy with staff assistance.
Easy walk up to market square and stunning Wells Cathedral
The room was amazing. We needed a rest and relax and as soon as we got into the room we were 100% relaxed.
Wonderful bedding and bed. Slept very well.
The staff were all friendly with an amazing choice of ales and ciders. Breakfast was beautifully cooked.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay in Wells.
Everything you could think of was provided. It was a beautiful apartment right in the centre of Wells. It was spacious with lots of personal touches which made it very comfortable. My sister and I often stay at The Swan Hotel in Wells but this apartment will now be our first go to when booking further trips to Wells.
We've stayed at the Crown at Wells for 5 Christmas breaks, and obviously we love the place. It overlooks the square and the beautiful Cathedral( providing you have one of the front rooms). The staff are friendly and helpful and the food in the restaurant is very good. It's a great place to stay. Highly recommended.
Location is excellent, easy walking to town, easy driving access. Room was very clean and comfortable. Tony met us at the door and filled us in on the room, all things Wells related, and what to find beyond. Thank you Tony! Fresh fruit and juice was delicious! Fresh foods for continental breakfast.
Couldn’t fault the Wookey Hole Hotel. Room was exceptionally clean, beds were comfy, nice and quiet at night. We were visiting Wookey Hole the next day, so for us, we couldn’t get a better location. We went into Wells for dinner, which was less than 10 min drive away. Weve had a fantastic weekend.
The hotel is in an excellent position in the centre of Wells with easy access to restaurants and pubs. The room in the coachhouse was clean and really well presented. The staff were lovely and the meals well prepared and served.
Everything!!
Location, decor, quirky layout, staff….view is fabulous!!
the back has fabulous views of Wells Cathedral.
I booked this particular hotel for 2 reasons, the decor of the room & views…both certainly was worth it!
The pub below the rooms of the City Arms really exceeded our expectations. The service and food were 5 stars. It was a really fun location for exploring Wells. Really cool place, we loved it.
