In the heart of Gloucester, the 15th-century New Inn features a medieval courtyard, real ale pub and free Wi-Fi. There is also a traditional restaurant with period features.

We liked the old town which was very pretty but not pretentious. A bit run down in places but lots of new developments too, eg the Gloucester Docks. Lots of independent pubs and restaurants, not overpriced. Friendly people. Lots of history. Everything really close to centre and quiet for a city (except for the seagulls)!

Beautiful cathedral which is what we came to see.
Beautiful cathedral which is what we came to see. Good transport links to other towns - Worcester and Tewkesbury. Docks area is attractive with restaurants, bars etc. and the area around the cathedral has some nice shops, tea rooms etc.

It’s very easy to reach Gloucester from the hotel especially if you like shopping at the Gloucester Quays. Found it very handy to get to Stroud and Painswick as well and the M5 motorway.
I personally wouldn’t use the bistro pub for meals at the Gloucester quays- the high orchard. Microwave meals with the wrong prices still in the menus and bar staff manager who couldn’t give a toss.
Cheltenham is nice to eat in if you fancy a day out and lots of dog friendly places too.

We wanted lots of choice of food and night time entertainment . Although the food we had was good in the main it was the usual branded restaurants. Night time bar entertainment very limited. Not very much high octane adventure to be had here. Won’t be rushing back

Yes gloucester is a nice area.
Yes gloucester is a nice area. But I would avoid staying at the new Inn, the management isn't fit for purpose. I've bren in other places with better management and more customer awareness. Management highly sensitive, room needs refurbishment. Just remember if you do stay there avoid saying something management doesn't like at the new inn, or you end up with a wooden bed, no shower or mattress. They get your money and you get free accommodation from his majesties police force. Don't waste your money, there is better accommodation in the area. Otherwise the area has great views, canal walks, and walks in general. And other stuff going on for it. It's a gorgeous place
Location perfect , central to city . Staff very friendly. Adjoining bar lively , very pretty courtyard area .
Rooms and halls a little tired and dated is all but very clean. ( we had a large triple room with 3 singles )
Loud at the alley side in the early morning due to deliverys of other shops etc but expected as city centre .
Recommend parking at kingswalk as hotel is literally alongside this . Plus its cheap with a reasonable checkout time of 11am. Will return.
This hotel is fabulous, the grounds are stunning. Although too far to walk in to town to Gloucester but still nice walks around hotel. Our room was beautiful. The bed was massive and extremely comfortable. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming, couldn't ask more from them. We ate in the restaurant, service was quick and food good. The hotel itself is very clean, well decorated with decor. Amazing value for money. We will visit again without doubt.
Finding the small car park at the back of the hotel (not NCP). We parked in small Gloucester City Council car park with was £6.00 per day. This was very convenient to access to the hotel from the rear.
I think it was £17.95 a day in NCP adjoining this car park. There was another multi-storey NCP nearby not sure how much this was but I think this is the one hotel recommended parking in.
Fridge and Microwave in the room was very useful.
I was so glad to have chosen The Thatch Inn as our base for exploring the Cotswolds. It's only 3 miles from Gloucester with frequent bus connection (Number 12) to the city centre. The bus-stop is right opposite the hotel. I was most impressed with the hospitality of the staff and their team spirit which made for a warm atmosphere. If a hotel is judged by its customer service and customer’s satisfaction, The Thatch Inn ought to be a 5* hotel!
the husband & wife team proved to be a charming couple. Breakfast (cooked by the wife) was excellent the full Monty consisted of 2 eggs, sausage, rashers of bacon, tomatoes, beans and toast. Tea & fruit juice as normal. My room was very clean and comfortable and the bed comfortable. I have no adverse comments to make and I would certainly recommend the hotel. The cost per room, the cleanliness, the food were all of a very high standard.
The Hotel has a quirky, ageless feel about it, which adds to it's charm. Our room was large, clean, and comfortable. An added bonus was a small fridge (which we needed to store meds) and a microwave, plus a kettle. Free parking in the centre of Gloucester, Would happily stay again.
Lovely quiet and peaceful location just a short drive from gloucester. Staff were friendly but appeared not well trained when dealing with queries or complaints. SPA was lovely and clean and staff were professional and welcoming. The hotels best feature.
Good coffee provided and breakfast (extra cost) was very good with nice range of menu. The room was quite spacious with partial river view but nearby main road caused some noise in early hours of morning. Pleasant gardens, countryside around hotel.
Very good hotel on the outskirts of Gloucester, good location for visiting the Cotswolds. The rooms are well decorated, comfy bed, new decorations. Excellent breakfast and the spa centre is a real plus.
Excellent experience overall.
Great old inn in the center of Gloucester. Friendly staff. Decent drinks on tap. Full breakfast in the morning was nice. Be aware that it's an extremely old building with lots of "quirks", but that's one of the reasons to stay here.
Hotel is in a quiet location with many amenities nearby - dry ski slopes across the road, country park five minutes away, golf club close by and Gloucester quays a couple of miles away. Hotel also has a swimming pool and spa.
Beautiful location, the room and the restaurant have an amazing view of the scenery.
The hotel itself has a great location, there is parking available and the staff were great.
